Hello, does anyone still produce the body side moulding that was used in the 72 vintage on a GS? My car came equipped with this moulding and I've considered putting it on if available. Also, for a Cortez Gold car, what color would have been used?? Thanks
Steve, The originals were stainless with a black strip attached in the center. They have been discontinued for many years, so a person would have to round up a used set. I have a couple cars that had them originally but have not decided whether or not to go back with them. If I don't, I may have enough to make up a set.
the original colour of my brother's 72 gs was gold. the body side mouldings have a black insert. i have these mouldings. my gs, which was originally flame orange came from the factory with body side mouldings. the car was repainted twice & those mouldings & the mounting pins are long gone. the previous owner applied a set of stick-on mouldings of excellent quality that i removed last fall prior to taking the car to the paint shop. i hope to locate the source for the stick-on mouldings and have them professionally applied. to install the original style mouldings, u will have to purchase mounting pins (which are reproduced), the plastic saddle mounts that the moulding attaches to that connects to the pins. u also have to drill a hole in each door, at one end, as the door has clip+bolt that connects to it for the moulding. i am not about to commence drilling holes for the pins, etc., in a new paint job.
I have a 72 Cortez Gold GS with the factory molding. It has a black vinyl top and the molding is black.
I think 72's only had black inserts available. I know 70's had the different colored ones, and I'm not sure about 71 but would guess they are only black.
Thanks for all the replies. I wasnot aware that they required pins or drilling. I worked at an auto parts store from 76 to 83 and sold miles of the aftermarket stuff in every color imaginable. It was a stick on product and was pretty durable. I have researched purchasing lengths of magnetic trim ( like the stuff used to make signs) that is 1 to 2 inches wide and 1/4 inch thick. Thought that might make a nice protective strip as a temporary measure should I need to park the car somewhere that was concerning. I'll let you know what pans out . Thanks
Little plastic clips, I used a thin blade putty knife, they slide one way or the other then pop right off Will you be re-using them or would you be willing to let them go ? I have been looking for a decent drivers side set of 3 for the past 3 years.
