What's the concensus on this? Does it end up weaker than a std bore 455? I've got a std bore race rotating assembly that I'd like to reuse but the machine shop won't just hone. says it will be too loose.... Anyone have a real nice no ridge block to trade for a nice 72 bolck with a very slight ridge but great for .020, .030 or .037 over?? Thanks Bruce BQUICK
Hey bruce Late 68' and all 69' 430 castings already had the water jackets for the 455. Seems buick engineers new of the upcoming cube increase for some time. We just had a late 68' sonic checked and could go 455 standard bore. Maybe even .030 over but its close. We decided to go with big block chevy bore size on the first buildup and later step up to 4.3125 bore. Having said this I would not punch one to this size without a sonic check first since that much boring is expensive. Dave
OK, thanks. So these 67 430s will have coolant jacket problems going to 4.3125, right? Man, I was looking at a 350 last nite and that block looks alot studier than a 400-455. The mains on the 400-455 are in the pan whereas the 350 the pan rail is at the level of the mains. I wonder how much power a 350 can handle with a bulletproof rotating assembly. Hey, another plug for the new block! (Jim-send the check to my home address ) Bruce BQUICK
