Boring Out A 300 block Hey, I was wondering if anybody could help me out, I have a 300 that I plan on rebuilding(bad rod bearing), and was wondering if you guys knew how far the block could safely be bored out so it won't overheat in 110* weather, and also if you guys know of any reputable machine shops in Riverside county. Thanks, Philip
Thanks Revvin Rivvy, if I were to bore the block .060 over would this engine over heat if it were a daily driver and for 8 months out of the year it is over 110 degrees with out having to get an aluminum radiator and electric fan etc. Just trying to be sure. Thanks
That's right, but you don't have to go that much, .030 is a common size overbore considering your block isn't too bad, your machinist will have to check it for you.
Pistons There are some .060 over pistons on ebay right now if this is your thing - here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2451215852&category=33623 It says hi-comp pistons - but they look like there is a dish to them - be sure to ask some ???? before buying them. there is someone alway selling piston set in various bores sizes on ebay for the 300-340's.
You have a chance in not overheating the engine if you retain the stock fan shroud, ENGINE DRIVEN A/C type fan clutch, and real fan on the engine, instead of going to a useless electric fan.
Sorry Adam, but I have made a mistake. My brother recently moved and the engine was given away. I thought he still had it. I apologize.
