Got this tip from a Buick racer with 455 and Stg2 heads: > George, > Great news....!!!!! > The best mini starter for the 455 (at a good price) is made by Bosch. > It is listed for a 1995 Buick Roadmaster with a 350 V8. > It is a direct bolt up without shims. Runs quick and smooth. My motor is > 10.5 compression.. > > If you post this info, let the people know only this version bolts so nice. > I did try to get another 6442 rebuilt not by Bosch. The difference between > the two is the starter pinion gear. The cheaper 6442 not Bosch has more > teeth and a thicker root. The Bosch appears to have a direct replacement > size pinion gear, and a more powerful motor. > Bosch $140.00 lifetime > 6442 rebuild $56.00 1 year > T/A Performance mini GM starter $289.00... >
George, who of the national chains sell Bosch starters. My local Advance Auto sells a Paladium brand that costs $150.00 and has a lifetime warranty. He said he doesn't know where a Bosch starter can be bought. Thanks. Mike D.
I have contacted the racer for more info. Will let you know what I learn from him Same starter for 350 and 455 Buick engines.
In the Detroit area. Murray's Discount Auto I'm sure Autozone will price match. the SKU# is 25480 and is a 9 tooth not 11 tooth. another # TT-116-3TB this may be a document number?
What's the Bosch Part Number? Searching online for '95 RoadMaster starters, looks like there are two, one for a Sedan and one (cheaper) for the Station Wagon and Limo (a Limo Roadmaster???) NapaOnline.com shows two starters, a PG260 and a PG250: Bosch Starter w/ Solenoid - Remfd SR8561X $ 224.00 - w/ PG260 Starter, Delco, Permenant Magnet Gear Reduction Starter, w/ 1.7 Kilowatt Starter Bosch Starter w/ Solenoid - Remfd SR8542X $ 184.00 - PG250 Type Starter, Delco O'Reilly Online shows two different starters, one for the Sedan, another for the Wagon and Limo: ULT Remanufactured Starter 03-0480 $188.99, SEDAN ULT Remanufactured Starter 03-0488 $119.99, STATION WAGON, LIMO ACDELCO Remanufactured Starter 323-480, $296.99 And the "P" engine code calls for the "PG260, 8MM SMALLER - DELCO REMY, PERM. MAGNET GEAR REDUCTION" starter...which is NA through them. And Autozone online also shows two different starters, Sedan / Wagon and Limo: Sedan: DURALAST DL9981S LLT $60.00 $149.99 Wagon: DURALAST DL9989S LLT $60.00 $119.99 What gives? Don't they all have the same engine??? o No: Looks like the Autozone/O'Reily Wagon starter would be the way to go, if it actually works...
clarification on mini-starter, please. Hi All, did anyone ever clear up the question of why there are two diff. starters and which is the one that will work for our engines? 'Thanks. --Craig Stangohr/Aiken, S.C.
So, do I understand that a starter from a '95 Roadmaster--which uses a "Chevy" 5.7 engine, will bolt up and work on a "Buick" design engine? If one "Chevy" style starter works, I suspect that plenty of others would, too. I'm aware that Pontiac and Olds shared starters, and I'm thinking that Buick and Cadillac share starters, I know that Olds Toronado and Cadillac Eldorado (FWD) shared starters up to about '78, but I thought Chevy's two bolt patterns for engine mounted starters were not shared with anyone else (except GMC, of course...)
It seems like most of the auto parts stores require a core exchange. I wonder if they will take our stock starters in exchange. If not those prices start to lose there appeal.
