I have read much on the different size rims and tires used to put some beef on the road. I have this 72 GS with stock 14" and 60's all the way around currently. I want to get some larger rims and wider tires without cutting or grinding my inner wheel wells.

Offsets on the searches have ranged from 5" to 5-3/4". What I am really wanting to get are some 15" Crager 5 spoke classics, with the proper offset to put some wide tires in the back and at least 60's in the front. Has anyone had success in finding a correct rim set-up (Size and offset) and who sells these rims, dealers, online. Any help would be great... :bglasses:

A lot depends on exactly what tire you get. If you were to get the M&H Muscle Car Drag N50 tire, you could put that on a 15x10 rim with 5" to 5.5" backspacing and have no problems at all. It's almost 1" narrower than the 325/50R15 DRagRadials. Just keep in mind that the bigger the tire and the narrower the rim, the more the tire is going to bulge out. A very safe and easy setup is the 15x8 with 4.5" backspacing and a 275/60R15 tire. I had that on my car for a while. No rubbing issues at all.

Will the M&H N50 tires work OK with 8 inch rims?

I believe they would. You could check with Jegs to make sure.

Yes. On Jegs site they even quote the specs as being on an 8" rim.

I'm thinking about just getting some wide street tires. I cruise more than have an intrest in drags. I'm going for more the power look, you know, car show with an attitude kinda style.

4.5" will center a 15x8, just about. you should be able to get 295's on with no modifications. any bigger and you may have to move the wheel in a bit.

    skitzofrenic66 What's an Import?

i just upgraded from 225/70r14's all the way around to 275/60r15's in the back on a 15x8 4.5 backspace and 255/60r15 15x7 front. they fit well except the front. on a hard turn they rub slightly but no biggie, just no tight turns! 275/60r15's look sweet but i think im gonna try 295/50r15 next...lol

On my 72 Skylark I am running the stock rallies with 275 60 15 on the back and 235 60 15 on the front. No rubbing on the front with worn springs! New springs on the way! Todd Where are you in Ok.? I am from Catoosa!

On my 1970 GSX I am running 17"x8" with 4.75 inch backspacing and I have plenty of room. You could easily go to a 9.5" all around. The back spacing should be 5.5 or 6" backspacing for 9.5" wheel.
