Does anyone have any photos of the original boxed rear lower control arms that were used on the 71 GS's with the rear sway bar (F-41 Ride & Handling package). I have purchased the kit from OPG to correctly box the regular control arms, which consist of a stamped plate that inserts and welds to a non F-41 arm. I have some near mint (no rust pits) control arms and would like to see where the welds were located, so I can duplicate exactly how GM welded these together. Also, are the reproduction boxed lower control arms that all of the vendors are selling that are already welded correct? These repro control arms have a "V" cut out on the ends of the stamped plate that is welded to the bottoms of the control arm to box it. Do I need to duplicate this V in the control arms I am building to be correct? Thanks, Ken
I have a couple sets of originals. Will try to get pics tonight. Send an email to me at GStage1@buickperformance.com as a reminder
I'll check mine also for the "V" question....three original 70 Olds sets DO NOT have the "V's" in them...and I'm pretty sure the originals on my 72 Stg1 do not have the "Vs" either. Maybe it was something that showed up on the arms you could order from GM before they went to discontinued status. Patton
I purchased the filler plates for my car at Fall Carlisle. They too have the "V" cut into each end. Not sure why but sounds like the vendor selling the complete arms may be buying parts from the same supplier.
Here is one of the arms from a 71 GS350. No "V" cut out at either end. I sandblasted the welds so you can see better detail. As you can see, arm is rusty. Welds are skip welded which will be shown in more pics.
Thanks to all. Thank you George for posting the pictures. Also, thank you Patton and Steve for your input on the "V" cut outs. Thanks, Ken
