6/17/17 is the first chance I can get 'The Street Sleeper' out this season with the available Drag Race dates for the NHRA crowd here at this facility, it's a challenge for me to get out. The rainy spring dampened those available days out. It wasn't until the Mother's Day weekend the track was really open with weather and the road racer boys to us NHRA guys but I had plans and it rained there on and off to boot. The bigger issue is it is a shared facility with the Road Coarse guys gobbling up the Raceway since they pay more to rent the facility for many and all desirable weekends all year, and my schedule which the only date that was possible since Mothers Day was June 3rd but I already plans. The weather forecast for the 17th is looking great right now. I am excited to see what I can do compared to last years runs which clocked 13.0 @ 117mph with 2.60/60' tire fires. I am optimistic after having replaced the clutch (warranty) the upgraded Global West front suspension and running M/T slicks to see improved 60' and E.T. I filled my 5gal jug with AV110 over the weekend for topping off at the track, and have a 50/50 mix of Super and 107 in the full tank now for the drive to the track (about 35 highway miles). The plan for the track is the first pass to feel it out with the changes and push it as hard as possible, with no idea how it will respond to the changes in launch and straight drivability at speed. Then I plan to make the next two passes with a passenger each pass so I can take two of my lifelong dear pals (grew up together and were my groomsman 25 years ago) down the track and have some fun. If anything is left after those runs, and time allows, I will make as many passes as possible and continue tune the adjustable shocks and PROFORM carb jets and air bleeds. I wish I had the availablity to test and tune Friday night but it just doesn't work out. If anyone within proximity and has the day free please let me know, love to see you there. Stay "Tuned" and Cheers!
Wish I could make it out, but I'm going out to Whidbey Island to do a bike ride... which has been as hard for me to schedule as you getting track time. Too bad the BOP drags don't exist anymore.
Great day for racing. My wife and two daughters, and two of my lifelong buddies and groomsmen and my 15 year old god son and his 11 year old sister made it with me. I drove the 'Street Sleeper' to the track and had a blast. Drove home, stopped at grocery store on the way home, and got her back into the garage and it's all good. I learned more about the car now it hooks up. Slicks worked great, car just pulls so hard and straight as an arrow. Right lane. First run, time trial, didn't heat up the meats, not a bad light, dumped clutch at around 3000rpm, and I let off at 1000' mark. Second time trial run, could have had a better light, dumped clutch at around 3200 all on but could have had a better light. The third run dial 12.0 since I entered Sportsman, and know it's got 11.70's in it but didn't want to break out. Could have had a better light. Dumped clutch at around 3500 and stayed in anyway. Too bad I could have made it to second round since left lane red lighted, we both red lighted but left lane not as bad as mine. I'm going to connect the first step rev limiter of the Mallory box to the clutch pedal neutral safety switch and set it at 3600 so I get consistent launch rpm. Still looking for the 11's with some tuning and experience. It was still pulling through the trap! All in all, not bad for a stick street car. Once I get it dialed in consistently I will thik about touching the Nitrous off and see if there's 10's in it. Cheers! I will post some pics and vids when I get to my computer. Cheers!
Experience, Video review and reflection this evening provides so much for the better. 1) I learned after leaving the track the Vertigate stays in the upper 1-2 range once in it, i.e, don't need to keep finger in the rings once in 1st. 2) I burn out in 2nd gear but need to dump at 4k rpm 3) Connect 2 stage rev limiter circuit of the Mallory box for launch control 4) I need double adjustable rear shocks to keep the rear from bouncing at launch 5) Not bad on the tree, but cut that light! 1st Time Trial 12.54 @ 114 MPH, .018 Light, let out at 1000' 2nd Time Trial 12.15 @115 MPH, .030 light 3rd Run, 12.0 Dial Break out round, 12.26 @ 115 MPH, -0.062 light Red Light 3rd Run, 1st Dial Break out round from my daughters I phone Cabin Video from the GoPro.
Great videos Mark they sure brought back some old memories. I'm surprised they let you leave the dog dishes on or is it OK now to run hubcaps? Bob H.
Hi Bob, Yeah, I was wondering the same but they never said anything and I have been through tech there three times with the dogs on.
Here are a couple pics of the plugs after 1st run. I Phone camera focused on the background but it shows them.
Timing strap looks little low, IE to much timing, try less. Wot might looks lean , idle doesn't look bad
Hi Ethan, the timing is 34 BTDC, locked MSD distributor. Plugs were pulled back in the pit so....had some run time after the run.... I was going to try and stop and pull plug right at the run out end of the track but it was a National event ant would have caused a fuss. Friday July 14 next test and tune if I can make it I have the jets and Air Bleeds and try to play with and some timing. Cheers!
Yea by the plug strap it wants less id putbthe 30° bushing in and try messing with shift points, short shifting 1st sometimes works wonders. Car hauls tail regardless
Subscribed!! Love the vids Mark! Keep em coming and keep chipping away at that et. I know that cars got 11's in it on motor, the squeeze can get real interesting!
So noted Shawn! FWIW the "Street Sleeper" was the only car at the event with Manual Shift.... I have been looking forwad to the local Stick series rase which is weekend of July 21-23....'Gonna try but it is wifees Birthday on the 26th...............................got some work to do.
Flowers and jewelry!! Haha I'm fortunate enough to have these guys in my area. http://www.umtrdragrace.com They run a series of events including multiple meets at the two tracks "local" (about 40 minutes/1 hour away) to me. Unfortunately I've only spectated at this point, but one of these days I'll get around to taking the green car to stretch it's legs. Till then, I'm living vicariously through you on the BBB 4 speed drag racing front! haha
