Thanks for the good deal on the intake Sonny. And thanks Bruce for letting me pick it up at your place. I didn't get to Bruces till 11PM. Stinkin car overheated! I love the soft, radiant glow of cherry red exhaust manifolds. Anyway, thanks guys!!!:beer

I'm gonna keep trying. The budget kills off a lot of the obvious things I could do, but It also forces experimentation. I've been hunting an intake for awhile, and finally got this one at a really good price. Changes since the nats include- Carb rejetting, another new timing curve, MSD blaster two coil(freebie from my bro), larger rear sway bar(freebie from an Olds pal), A tranny full of synthetic, and the soon-to-be-mounted intake manifold. The thing thats killing me is the gears. The slicks are so much better than the dangerously tractionless stockers, but the 3.42s ain't gettin' it with that big of a tire. I'm crossing the line taching like 3300 rpm in third:( I think over winter I'm gonna seek 4.11s. I think I could score a used set and have them installed for 'round $200 total if I'm frugal. A real four or five speed would work better, but the gear change is the most affordable option.

So to sum it up.....If I ain't going much faster, it sure ain't for lack of effort!!!!

Dan, you might try finding a 26 inch tire before you change gears, especially if you are still going to drive it! If you aren't going to drive it everywhere then change the gears, but if you plan on driving anywhere, you won't be happy with 4.11s, but the gas stations will like you!

My fourth gear is a pretty tall overdrive, so I think it'll work OK. I'd change trannys since the 2 to 3 gear spread stinks, but these A 833 ODs have been dirt cheap so far.

What part of PA do you live in.

Hey Dan i use to live in waynesburg PA and did alot of trail riding and mx racing there and at mt. morris. With a guy by the name of greg barnhart who owns barnhart honda/suzuki cycles in ruff creek. That was like 25 years ago and i still come up once a year and dual sport ride the old trails now and then.

    Hey Billy,

Waynesburg is about an hour and a half south of me. My brother keeps pestering me to borrow a bike and go trail riding with him. Do you still know someone there? Good trails are getting scarce.

Yup! Little know fact is that Chevy trucks used A-833 ODs in the eighties. Now, its a weaker version than the legendary musclecar area unit. These are aluminum cased and the counter shaft likes to wear out, but they are CHEAP. Some versions have the mopar bolt pattern on the front and require the Chevy bell, but most have a GM patern. Input and output shafts are GM as well. They do use Mopars larger diameter input shaft housing that won't fit a GM bell, but some machining and switching to socket headed capscrews solve the problem. So if you go to a swap meet and see a wierd tranny, ask what it is. The owner will have no clue. Heres a pic. The thing that catches your eyes is the fins on the bottom.

Oh, I know what they are. As you see by my screen name I have worked on a mopar or 2 or 10..... My friend mike is putting one in a 73 duster as we speak. The mopar ones are a little harder to find but are pretty good I even had a friend who was running one in a 68 hemi charger for a while. As long as you didn't beat it too hard on the shifts it would live quite a while.
