Hey everybody. I got a question or two. What is the difference in horsepower between the rare buick 340 and the buick 350? Also, what is the torque between the two? Im just curious to see what the difference is. The main thing I want to know is the main horsepower of the 340 and normal buick 350. Everybodies help counts!
    Thanx

This is out of the big Chilton manual. These are the official numbers as supplied by GM.

    1966 & 1967:
    340 2bbl, 9.0/1 comp: hp 220@4000, tq 340@2400
    340 4bbl, 10.25/ comp: hp 260@4000, tq 365@2800

    1968 & 1969:
    350 2bbl, 9.0/1 comp: hp 230@4400, tq 350@2400
    350 4bbl, 10.25/1 comp: hp280@4600, tq 375@3200

    1970:
    350 2bbl, 9.0/1 comp: hp 260@4600, tq 360@2600
    350 4bbl, 9.0/1 comp: hp 285@4600, tq 375@3000
    350 4bbl, 10.25 comp: hp 315@4800, tq 410@3200
    (just for fun) 1970 455 4bbl, 10/1 comp: hp 370@4600, tq 510@2800

The numbers after 1970 reflect different testing methods.

Hey rick, thanks for the help. I appreciate it. I was just a little curious. I think it would be cool to own a 340, but the are hard and rare to find, and it is hard to fing a lot of aftermarket or remanufacured parts for a 340, but maybe someday, i will own one. anyways, thanks for the help.

Ive got a 340 also, there rare and all but that just makes the parts harder to find. I love my buick and all but I wish it was easier to find parts for.

I've got a 340 too! I love having it because when I talk to these wanna be car guys on bas you can see their brains working overtime going,"340?????". Mostly because they are all Chevy" guys. Speaking of rare, how do you tell if you have an original GS340? Is there something in the V.I.N.?

    Mr. Buick,

It's not cool to own one.

    You're much better off with a 350.

Trust me. I've had one longer than anybody.

Hi, There is a 340 for sale on Ebay($175.00) if you are interested. As far as parts go, if you do your homework you can find them. I have seen engine rebuild kits and lots of other stuff on the web. My 340 has 172,000 and I just started it and let it run, it's 10 degrees here right now and it started first try. Good Luck!
