Ok so I was told that the 80 heads flow the best, but have low compresion. Would this mean that using those heads with say some TA springs ect., milling the block, and different pistons, I could create a higher cr? I realize the stock motor only makes 165 hp, but I want to change that starting with the cr.
    Thanks Sean

There isn't much difference in the heads. The '70 castings offer the most, but it's minimal. You could mill the heads down, but the most effective way to increase the compression is in the pistons.

Thanks, I think I'll wait till I have enough cash to make a bunch of upgrades. It's prety need hearing about all these great hp and tq numbers. I always thought there was a good amount of potential hidden behind all the smog gear and steel intake!

should I find older heads or use the 80 ones?

    head gaskets

    Sean,

You could get some steel shim head gaskets and eek out slightly better compression over the composite gaskets. Might be a fun weekend project, but I can't say if it's worth the time and effort. It might give you .4 -.5 point compression. The later heads have 1.55" exhaust valves vs. 1.5" in early heads.

So no big difference. I'll just save up for a bunch of goodies.
