I may be wrong on the cam number , its been in a long time . But the motor has plenty of low end power and pulls real good to the top.
saw this thread got interesed, read it over and did some calculating. is possible to go 3.900 with the stroke and 3.950 bore with sleeving and offset grinding? if so that would that would put it at 382.3 cid.
Don't bother with modifying the bottom end unless your ready to step up to the Eagle Custom crank to stock specs for over 2k and Childs and Albert Custom rod$. Spend the $ on head porting and custom intake!
But is it possible? Combine this with the head work and see what sort of power you get. I like the possibilities.. And what about the Poston GS350-118 cam? Anybody use one of these?
A 4.24" bore spacing with a 0.060" wall thickness cylinder liner should allow a 4" bore with .120" thickness of block "meat" between the 2 liners at the thinnest point.
Thats all well and good if there is no core shift at all. 60 over is a race only thing for the buick 350 because it will likely run hot on the street. I've been inspecting Buick 350 blocks for core shift and they range from very good to very badly shifted so watch out. If you go over 40 thou you want to sonic test to be safe. I'd prefer to find a virgin (stock bore) block and bore it 10 (or 20 if needed) leaving room for at least another rebuild. If you spend good $ on allign honing, squaring an decking the block and blueprinting it would be nice to get another build out of it. We are not talking about a good for one season Buick 455 block here....
Do you have the specs on the jetting you used on the 800 cfm Q jet? I'd like to compare to what John Osborne did to my 71 800 cfm carb.
i would like to run low 13.00 poss a high 12.00 second pass, with spray. i dont see how someone could run 11s without massive head work. im no buick guru, but i have had good luck with chevys in the past, best ever 12.00 flat on street slicks in a 78 malibu had world heads, lunati cam, sigle plane intake 850 holley, a lot more than what is offered for sbb, best so far is 14.00s. would really like to know more about 11 sec buick pass, cam and whatnot. kinda hard to believe, not `saying not true, just with whats out there, seems you would need a power adder. ???
hey fox,s den , you gonna make it to the gathering here in toledo? not to change the subject, but im in the process of getting a set of heads, and i found a buick guy here in town to do them up this summer. any ideas on witch way to go, valves springs, whatnot? really dont want to go with the roller rocker set up; way too pricey for my blood.
i used one threw it out. had no real power until 2800-3000 ,advanced it only got slightly better, still only a 14 second passes with 3.42s and ported heads. i have seen better running 70 315 hp engines with 100000 miles and sounding like a typewriter
It takes 550 hp to put 4000 lb's into high 11's. Zero offense to SS-truck, but his memory may be off somewhere. Either with the car's weight, the ET or the combination. Flat tops are at least 11:1, angle milled heads and other work could be putting this combo 12:1 + compression. I know of a combo that is slightly stroked, flowing 300 cfm on the heads, has 16:1 compression, GIANT solid cam and sheet metal 2 X 4 intake. Combo was high 600's to 700 hp. Some or all of this combo may still be available, call me at TA and I can give you the persons name. I don't recall the exact specs (I think it is 370 cubes) on the stroker but it is a custom steel Crower crank with Honda connecting rods. That's about $35 to $4000 just for those two parts. Making a stroked 350 kind of expensive. I am very surprised how popular the 118 cams are. They are very lazy in the bottom end. Plus peak torque and hp are spread out (closer is better). I know a bunch of people will probabaly chime in with their positive experiences.
Dave no offense taken but my memory is sharp when it comes to my car and I have my son to back up my memory . I got no reason the fudge on the numbers , too many people here that know Buicks real well for me to try and pull one . All I can say is I hit a magic combo with parts and tuning and the old car runs real good . If we were close I would be glad to take you for a ride or dyno session . Not trying to be a smart A but I got what I got .
All the good running stock 350 Buicks are running in the high 11's . These are race only and lots $$$$. Plus 5 years of trial and error. It would be very hard to run 11's with a street car without power adder. Hats off to any one who can.
Thank You for the hats off . Yes it did take several years of experimenting to get those times . But honestly guys I have run those times with NO power adders . I would not insult you intelligence by trying to run some b/s numbers on you . This board is far to smart to fall a b/s story on numbers .
I have spoken with Mike on the phone and he has given me allot of good advice regarding getting the right combo. Like he said, he spent a bunch of time customizing his 800 cfm Q-jet and took the time to do trial and error testing.
