Helping out in a 72 GS 350 restoration and got a correct 72 non AC fan pulley and hits the water pump housing at radiator pipe. I'm thinking the engine builder installed the wrong year pump. If the wrong pump was installed could a different pulley work? It's a non AC GS 350 with PS only. Any ideas ?

Sounds like wrong pump. They make short, medium & long reach 350 pumps. One of the lengths should not rub but might not align belt properly. You may have a pulley mis match going on

It sounds like the wrong water pump. You will need to find what length you need as there are 3 different length pumps.

Post a picture? What pipe? The upper hose? Lower hose? Do the belts line up properly? Does the fan have the spacer? Is fan in fan shroud 1/2 into the shroud?

The difference I think is between air and non air cars with correct water pump
Now that I think about it the long water pump is for the air conditioner car since it will have the double pulley for the air conditioner.
