I cant believe this! I've been looking for the car I owned in high school, and sold 11 years later (in 1989). I FOUND IT!!!!!!! ITS FOR SALE ON EBAY. I SOLD IT IN MIAMI, AND ITS NOW IN POMPANO http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2461088864 THE WIERD THING IS THAT IT HAD OVER 100K MILES ON IT 14 YEARS AGO!!!!!! tHE VIN MATCHES UP. ALSO , IT WAS A NON A/C CAR, IT NOW HAS A/C (FACTORY???) I DONT KNOW IF THE TAG WAS SWAPPED, OR WHAT? THE CAR I SOLD WAS VERY, VERY RUSTY.
If it was in fact your car, then obviously it was swapped. You don't happen to have the build sheet for it, do you? Are you going to email them?
Frank Very doubtful that someone would have transplanted a green dash and interior into a car. It is just not that popular. Did the car have a green dash and interior when you owned it?
look again.. the interior is black. look at the picture of the console, there are two hex head screws in the cover of the glove box, where I had a fire extinguisher mounted. I'm not saying that he switched the vin's, I put the edlebrock valve covers on the engine, the guy claims to have the original covers... thats funny, because they're in my garage. I have the original purchase paperwork, when I bought it from the buick dealer in Portland , Maine. I also have the last registration when I sold it in Miami, in 1989. I have pictures of the car, and engine compartment from over 25 years ago. The car had to have undergone extensive repairs. both fenders (lower), both quarters (lower) and around the rear window , were badly rusted. I can tell for sure, as I drilled two holes in the frame when I mounted lakewood traction bars. I really am glad to see it, but it is being passed off as a cream puff. I removed the vinyl top and kept the trim on it (in 1979). Frank
I wonder if someone can get a picture of the PS joint to see if it is the 455 one or 350 one. I would guess that if a lot of stuff was transferred, they wouldn't have transferred the steering column (unless they knew to or if they wanted to keep the tilt column). Did you put an aftermarket tach in the dash? Did it have a clock or a tach originally? Just a few thoughts. Did you notice the bike in the garage from the underneath shot (alongside the Ping golf bag)? Or the Hummer in the pass side rear shot?
I did and I can see what you are saying. The back seat shot still looks green to me but you know the car without a doubt.
It did not have a tach. it had a clock. I emailed the place, and pointed out the mileage discrepancy. I dont know if they will get back to me. Its probably under consignment from a private "collector". I did look at the pics again, and the interior does have a greenish tint. maybe it was dyed. When I sold it, the interior was pretty good, but the door panels had to have been replaced, because I had 3 buicks at the time . (check the pics on my web page) and I swapped around the panels, and put crappy ones on before I sold it. The rear deck lid has beeen changed because I put an original gsx wing on it in 1979, that I purchased from the buick dealer. I dont have the original build sheet, and I left the protect=o=plate in the owners manual, and let it go with the car. Frank
The panels that are on it now, do look like the ones that were on it. Its just really ironic, that I stumbled on it, and the vin looked familiar, then I checked, and it was a mach! It didnt travel very far. It is located about 30 miles from were I sold it. Frank
If anyone cares, it sold for 16 grand. I last time I registered it in '88, it had 138,000 miles. :af:
Well maybe he replaced everything all the body panels and really restored it . A lot of work and money for a 16000.00 sale
Yes, and added factory air conditioning??? I again will say that I dont know what has been done, I talked to the high bidder, and it is being checked into. The seller had a nice story of a low mileage show car, that just isnt the fact. I dont think 16k is bad for that type of car. Do you think it acceptable to: "A" totally restore a car with over 140k miles on it, and sell it as a cream puff "original"? OR is it ok to "B" find a cream puff skylark, and do a nice job putting it together as a gs, incuding vin #, and then selling it as an original unmolested low mileage classic muscle car???? If so, you too can start your own buisness, and the sky's the limit. We all know there are ten times as many LS6 chevelles running around, then were ever actually produced. :beer
I thought a GS had a unique VIN number, unlike a GS "option". You said in your first post that you checked the VIN and it matched up. Wouldn't a well informed buyer notice this is not a real GS by checking that number? To answer your question, I personally don't think it is a sin to build a clone (obviously I did) but it is unethical to sell one as an original. Especially if the asking price is very high. Sell it as a clone and at least be honest. Let the judges at the car shows sort it all out. I don't think many of them can.:bglasses:
Now I get it......it is his VIN tag on another body with a/c that may have not been an original GS.ou:
Why not just send a message to every one on the bid history? Might encourage them to ask the seller a few probing questions... :spank:
I still have the VIN tags from my old '66. I just don't have the nerve to put them on my '67.......I would feel guilty everytime I told someone it was a '66. Sometimes I kick myself, but this way I have nothing to be ashamed of. That guy selling this car must not have a conscience, so I wonder how well the work was done also.:Brow:
