My opinion is Buick has just moved to a higher level like mopar, olds, pont., I use to find parts all the time now you can't and when you find them and here the price  thats what happens, yes you will still find them but not easy, I have heard and seen to many changes in the last year I think Buick has just come out of the closet get what you can use soon, because Ebay and all the swap meets and the papers show it that Buick is on the rise for parts and cars. :Comp:

I just hope that all of us already have the car (s) and part (s) that we need. Otherwise, you're either going to pay too much, or feel very frustrated. Maybe enough to walk away from the hobby (?)

It's amazing when you see what cars are going for at the BJ auctions.

I don't care what anyone says, I don't think that you can really ask the prices that people are paying for those cars in the Want Add Press or on ebay or hemmings. People just will not pay those prices. BJ has a clientele that comes, cash in hand, ready to spend. It's a much easier sell, plus, being caught up in the auction atmosphere just adds to the frenzy of high dollar sales. It's almost a non-reality, like a friggin drug trip. How can you take a 58 Chevy that sells for 120K and say that the price is only going to go appreciate? Appreciate? From 120k? A 58 Chevy? It was beautiful, but come on guys. How can you be so sure that 10 years from now someone will spend more than 120k on this car? If so, it'll only be at another BJ auction, where reality is non-existent.

I am inclined to think that the ONLY place where you can get those prices are if you are selling your car AT the BJ auctions.

It's almost surreal the way those cars sell and the prices they get.
The middle class muscle car collector, or even enthusiast, will eventually have to start collecting die casts and not real cars if these prices proliferate the "actual" market.

Ken, I agree completely about everything you said. BJ is not reality. A perfect example is when that guy last month bid up and won that yellow 427 Camaro because "it matched his jacket". It was a sweet car, but it sure isn't worth what he paid for it.

    Watch the real near future

I didn't want to sound like I was pushing the prices of Buick parts and cars up but here is a little example that happened to me, in 1999 I sold a show quality 1972 flame orange GSX won many first places at big shows was at the all buick show at Carlisle in 1996 perfect looking car, well to make a long story short I sold the car for my daughters wedding in 2000 :Do No: Family first is with me, sold it for 14.000 now the new owner just 4 years later last weekend sold it for 35.000  in that range, Man should have hung on to that car, the buyer was a Buick dealer many years ago, so its starting to change in cars and parts for Buick The new owner of my old GSX said it will sell at B,J, auction for
50 Grand, Its killing me to see this thanks Dan. :Comp:

  6. I'm only 25 but have done enough reading of old magazines and reaserching muscle cars in general to wonder if this trend is not unlike the late 80's early 90's market jump that saw muscle cars being bought as investments rather than stocks or other commodities. I think this is what Mopar , Chevy, and Pontiac guys felt 15 years ago. Buicks seem to have been left out of this then but are catching on in popularity now. Look at the board membership, repro parts now available, and other contributing factors. I think before the internet, Chevy's were universally known and liked. They grabbed all the magazine covers anyway. Buick guys felt like they knew a secret, had something truly special in the cars, but with the internet and forums such as this board we've come closer as a community to even create the BPG and get some parts repro'd. With the prices on ebay and others seeing what prices NOS stuff can go for the sky is the limit. As long as the supply is short and the demand begins to grow we are in trouble. At least those of us who are gonna stick it out (ie board members here) are in trouble finding what we need. Let's hope for a market correction. As the Parts for Sale forum states: No $700 overflow tanks please. Just my thoughts and I'm full of em.

and here's the sad part, the barret jackson and ebay insanity, with driving prices up, is gonna soon find good people getting frustrated cause they can't afford it, with all lifes neceitys prices inflating way more than your yearly raise, to find out you loosing more and more each year, people are going to leave the hobby, start stealling for the rareparts, or maybe even getting so frustrated, commiting suicied

Well, if worst comes to worst, it's either A)You'll have to go to a local junkyard or travell somewhere and locate parts you need for your car or B) you'll have to buy the parts from somebody that is selling them, which whoever is selling them, will have a big price tag.

Where's the NOS parts at?:Do No:

I'm to the point where I know I won't restore or buy another classic car just for the fact I have to pay 5 times the amount of what a part is really worth to have a car that'll never be worth the amount invested. The only way I will buy another Buick is if it's completely done and I get it at a good price as I'm tired of spending all my money on cars. Thank God I'm almost done with my GS and I know I'll spend a good chunk of change to get everything right, but I'll NEVER sell it. From the original purchase price of what I paid for the car I'll probably have $15k into it making it to the point of where I want the car to be. Once the car is done, I'm done. I won't buy another as it's too expensive to keep going like this.

Don't feel bad on die casts

The price on the die casts have gone up too, you use to get them for 19.99 now try to find them for under 40.00 and some are even at 79.99 or even 100.00 look at the conv. buicks some I have seen for 159.00, so as soon as the people that have the 70 and 71 GSX,s sell out soon that were bought in the 80,s the price will go up on those too, probably in 5 to 7 years they will be 100.00, toys-r-us starting price now on 1/18 is 39.95 my collection of Ertl 1/18 has slowed down because of price, and every different kind of Manufacturers are coming out of the woodwork, people buy them as fast as they come out big money now and many cars collect them now and collect $ later. :Comp:

    Hey Dan,
How much is your house worth now? What did you pay for it? Would you sell it for the price you bought it?
Guys our cars are pretty special,I am sick and tired of All other makes continually escalate in price except our cars.
    Just my thoughts

I've always considered these things as a cycle, If the prices get high enough the market WILL crash. And look at the average age of the people here on this board. It is indicitive of the average age of classic car owners. How many 16 year olds do you know that really want old iron, they are few and far between. 20 years from now, they'll be collecting all the rice they have now. In 20 years, I'd like to get my hands on a 95 Riv, that'll be a classic!
