    Hey

I was wondering what do build sheets actually look like? I always thought that they looked liek dealer invoices with a bunck of option codes printed on them. Then i start hearing about these punch card things and i realize that I have found about three of them in the various cars I own. (found 2 in the GTO and one in the buick). What is the deal with the cards? How do i read them?(there are no markings on them just punches). Can they help prove my car is a real 1967 gs340? thanks

    Geeto 67,
There are many different types of what people call "buildsheets" for our 65-72 cars. It depends on the year, as well as the production plant. There were also IBM 80 punch cards (sometimes labeled Buick location cards), Protect-o-plates, fisher body buildsheets, etc. All carry different information, as they were used in diffferent production areas while the cars were being built.

The only punch cards I have seen are for 70-72 cars, but I (with the help of some others on this board) have developed a key that can decode them. If you send me all the information you have on the car, ie the info from the firewall tag, vin #, a list of known options, etc I will try to cross reference the info and develop a key to read your card.
The best way to copy the punch cards is to put a piece of black paper under the card before you copy it. The black paper makes the punch locations really stand out. Also if your card is completely blank, do the above procedure for both sides, otherwise the codes could be backwards.

PS. I really wish everyone would sign there name, I feel like I am talking to myself with out it.

    Hey

My cars are both 1967s. That explains why I get strange looks from other 67 owners when i mention these things. To be fair my GTO was owned by a guy who also had a 1970 GTO, although how those cards ended up in my car is strange. As far as the buick is concerned the drivetrain and front seats are out of a 70 buick although I found the card behind the stock 1967 rear seat. I'l try to get to the cards this weekend as my garage is a mess due to a recent basement flood (pipe burst). Thanks for the help.

    Kerry,
I would really like to get copies of these cards if you have the time. What do they look like? Are they 8 1/2x4 with holes down two sides, or are they 7 1/4x3 1/4 with a bevel cut off 1 corner, like an IBM card. Let me know.
