I hope someone can answer this question, as I can't seem to find an answer:

The original IBC-UBC codes say that a 120 sq ft structure does not need a building permit, from what I understand. Recently I heard that the new codes coming out are allowing up to 160 sq ft without a building permit. Has anyone heard of this??? :Do No:

    Jerry,

I'll ask my wife. She may (or may not) have some info. She's an architect, but of course everything she works on needs permits.

    So what ya plannin'?

    Jerry,

She said the first thing to do is call your local permit office. I guess things are changing from the UBC towards the IBC, but not everyone is familiar with the IBC. For Bellevue, this change is happening in about 6 months.

If you haven't gotten any more information by early in the week, she can try to find out more info for you. She just started at a new company, so she'll have to locate the UBC books.

    Thanks Steve,

I heard there is a change coming, but I can't find it. I know we have people on here that are "in the know".

My question will be reaching out beyond the immediate area. That's the reason for the UBC-IBC question.

    Thanks Again For Looking!
