Let us know how the shaft looks and works as I will be needing one soon.
Most likely a 3 1/2" chrome moly with 1350 yokes.

Funny you would bring up driveshafts right now, I'm also replacing mine with a " Driveshaft Shop" unit. It's a 3 1/2 aluminum shaft with all heavy duty hardware.
Took them my old driveshaft,to copy all the dimensions last Mon. picked it up Wed., Took it home and installed it, they wanted me to call back with a measurement of how much the front yoke shaft was exposed. They had installed a different size than my original and wanted to verify the fit. Well installed I had 3" of shaft exposed, they said bring it back!!
Brought it right back on Wed. We went over ALL thier questions and thier required measurements, Picked up a revised one Fri. went to install it and would not fit!!!!! To figgin long!!! Brought it back Fri. and I'm still waiting
I'm sure once they get it right I'll be happy, It has just been a real pain in the ass.

Kenny, if you don't mind my asking, how much was the aluminum driveshaft and how much horsepower will it withstand? Thinking about putting one in my racecar.

Carl, two words: DO IT!! I put one in my car three years ago and it definitely is strong enough and picked up some ET! I got mine from Lukovich Racing in Michigan. http://www.lukovichracing.com/ or 1-866-858-5853. Frank Farro and Rick Martinez also got theirs from there.

Carl, I don't mind at all.
I might have paid too much because I went thru F/B transmissions. Fredy Brown for those of you who are wondering. I had a vibration in my GS and was able to feel some slop when I grabed the front of the driveshaft by the input shaft,[yoke?]. I called John Csordas right away and he adviced me since we had switched the 10 bolt posi for a 12 bolt [same 3.73 gears] about a year and a half ago and had discovered a major crack in one of the u-joints maybe the damage had started on the rear housing tranny bushing!
Sure enough, when I took the rear housing off, the bushing was wasted, so bad that the slop had started taking out the rear seal on the housing, a good 1/4 " from where it should be seated :Dou:
I took the housing to FB transmissions and asked Fredy about replacing the bushing and seal, no problem. I then inquired about who does his driveshafts, He said " no problem, leave it with me and I'll take care of it". I could have taken it myself to the " Drivesaft Shop " myself, it's only about 5 miles from F/B. And they are both within 10 miles of me right here on Long Island.
I hope I did'nt get screwed too bad. Toatal to F/B was $595.00. I asked him how much just for the bushing and seal install,[which he did] and he said $75.00!! :Dou:
This episode is still not over :Smarty: I am an older fart and I don't take to gettin ripped off :Smarty:
PS. Today is tuesday, I stopped by after work to pick up my driveshaft, after bringin it in 3 times to get right and Freddy told my it's not done yet :Do No: Seems the excuse was the shops aluminum welder broke!! It should be ready sometime tomorrow
Another good example of how some of these "Expert Shops" operate???? :Do No: :Do No:

Thanks for the info, Kenny and Doug. Doug, did you buy the 6061 shaft or the MMC shaft? At $500.00 it looks like my winter savings project. Thanks again guys.

Carl, I got the 6061. John Lukovich himself told me that, unless I was gonna go Pro-Stock racing, I didn't need the composite and it wouldn't be worth the extra money for my purposes. What ya gotta realize is, going from steel to aluminum saves around 10 to 15 lbs, obviously depending on how heavy your steel shft happens to be. Lukovich said the difference between his aluminum and composite shafts was only 3 lbs, 11 lbs vs. 8 lbs. Hence the advice not to spend an extra hundred or whatever it was. When I bought mine ( BTW, it was six years ago, not three. My mistake.) , it cost me either $325 or $350. The price has gone up a bit, huh? :Dou:

    Update.
Picked up driveshaft Monday afternoon, this was the 3rd one they made for me. After installing, yes, it actualy fit this time!!, Took it out for a ride at variable speeds. All I can say is what a diiference :Smarty: Car has never been so smooth. I'm sure the wasted bushing in the tranny tailshaft had been slowly getting worse before I realized something was wrong, Car drives like new and I am very pleased, overall :TU: :TU: PS. also took about 10 lbs off the car :3gears:
