I am checking the cam bearings and cam bearing journals on a 455, what should the clearance be? I see the cam bearing journals should be 1.8682-1.8692 by the book, but two cams I have on the bench measure 1.785. I have not mic'ed the bearings yet.

Are these new Bearings that have been installed in the block , or used Bearings still in the motor?

Often overlooked detail....especially important on Buick motors with oil flow needed across the #1 cam bearing.
I had to have my cam journals polished to achieve clearance on a new cam I got years ago. Cam would not spin freely in block as it came back from machine shop. They said it would be fine but if I wanted I could rap the dist gear turn 90 deg and rap again etc to gain clearance since the bearings are soft. WHAT???
