Hey guys, I'm installing a cam button as described in the Dove book on my 455. As far as setting the distance between the button and the cam I was thinking that I would mount the timing cover without a gasket then run the bumper in until it touches the cam. Then pull the cover, secure the button with epoxy and re-install with the gasket so basically the distance between the button and cam would be the thickness of the compressed gasket.

How does this sound to you guys? If anyone has a better suggestion please share.

Hi Mike on my race motor i run only .010 th. clearance. I get this clearance by building up the cam button with weld then with the gasket installed bolt it together and then i indicate off the back of the cam, then i move the cam back and forth and add or machine off some weld till i get my clearance i need. I think if you do it the other way youll have to much clearance because i think the t. cover gasket it around .035 th. thick. By the way if you run this thing tight like me dont ever retighten the cover down to much because you could drive the cam right in to the block (i know this it happend to me) so i hope this helps you out.
