I have a Poston GS116 cam in my engine right now and I called T/A Performance and they recomended thier TA 212. Now these two cams have almost the exact same lift and duration, the major difference being the Poston cam has a lobe center of 116 and I'm not sure of the exact lobe center on the TA 212. Anyway anybody out there with a desktop dyno or something that can tell me what kind of horsepower I could pick up with this swap? Combo is 455 B4B Osborn Q-Jet headers stock heads 9 to 1 CR Dave Berry o No:
Hey Dave, the 212 cam is ground on a 212 degree centerline. i was thinking that you may want to go for a little more cam. I have to wonder if you will see enough of an improvement to make worth tearing into the motor. I don't remember what you were looking to gain last time I saw you but you might want to consider one of the other cams. I know you aren't driving it as a "grocery getter", so make it worth your while! We want to see at least high 12's out of that car! Take another look at T/A's website and call them again. Tell them you want to be the "King of the street" and they will fix you up!  Brian
Wow! A 212 degree intake center line. That's way out there! I'm sure you meant to say 112. I seriously doubt changing from a poston 116 to a ta 212 would make much if any difference in performance. Jim Burek
I'm really wanting to check the cam bearings and thought while I was in there I'd think about a cam change. I don,t want to change anything else, any suggestions about a cam that won't kill to much bottom end torque or make me want to go past 5000 RPMS Jim. By the way Brian when do you get to bring your baby home and do you know HP and Torque figures yet? I do expect a ride! Dave Berry
I coming home very soon! There are just some adjustments that need to be made before Jim can get a good dyno run. it was on the dyno late last week but needs some tweaking so I won't post the those numbers as they are not actual full pulls. But it was very strong! Brian
Dave, I went from the GS116 to the TA 290-94, idle is just a bit lopier, still holds 15" of vacuum at 725rpm idle. Made almost 40 hp difference on the dyno (all of it above 4400rpm which ofcourse is where the 116 nose dives). Of course I had the 116 installed straight up, and the TA cam I degreed during installation (at 4 degreed advance). Completely different cams, top end is much better now.
My buddy runs a TA 212 cam in a couple of his cars. The quickest is a 68 GS 400 covertible. It has a 76 455, 70 cast pistons, 68 430 "big port" heads, edelbrok intake and KB pulse headers, TH400 with a 3000 stall coverter and a 3.90 posi from a his 69 stage 1 car. His best run was 12.70 ET. Without the power top stuff and some of the interior I think the car weighed between 3400 and 3500 lbs.
