Nice numbers there Art! Cant wait to hear it in person!

Is your Qjet modified at all? What year carb is it?

Again, congrats on the dyno result!

Since buick used 3000 stall switch pitch converters from the factory even for v6 along with 300,340,401, etc. I recomend a 3200 stall for even a stock engine to get a little pep in it. Nothing less than 3200 but not a sloppy cheap design. Try EDGE or Jim wiese for 500 bucks. Ask for 3200 and it will tighten up at cruise and fly at WOT. Good for 15 sec stocker to high 11sec car.

118 cam is most versitile cam I've seen. works with stock heads, small valves, big valves, ported, unported, headers, stock exhaust, any combination. Idles very smooth, good vacuum
The more improvements, the faster you go. Some have been running 11.70's with this cam.

Both the above are good for a WIDE RANGE of uses, from mild to wild with no downsides. You can't dissapoint yourself this way.

Actually, you would have to ask Scotty Guadagno, he actually did all the testing.. I just did the write up.

Camshafts are the most overly analyzed component in a modern performance engine, and cam grinders are always looking for "the latest fad" to sell their product. That's as far as I am going with this discussion, you can run any lobe design you wish.

Did you get the motor installed? How does it run?

Runs Fantastic!! Still working out a couple bugs.

-The Flow Master 50 seires mufflers "reduced interior resonance" had to go! Before I went Deaf!! Installed Dynomax 17749s. Great mufflers and less expensive!

-Have a couple noisey lifters at start up "johnson lifters" for about 5 secounds
then gone until it sits for a while..

-Also have to install govenor kit, shifting at about 4500 right now.. I,m saving that for last so the motor will have it a little easy when I'm in it

Other than those few thing I'm very happy the it came out!! :beers2:

Stage1 Iron vs. Stage 1 Alu SE Heads

Please tell me: How much power gain from iron stg1 heads to alu stage1 TA-SE heads ? Big Difference ?
My car have about the same combination as your car (TA-288-94H , STG1 Iron heads, small stall conv, )

Re: Stage1 Iron vs. Stage 1 Alu SE Heads

On a 10:1 compression engine, about 50 HP, maybe more if you port them. I went from untouched iron Stage1 heads to Gessler level 2 TA Stage 1SE heads flowing 313/225 @ .550 lift. My best with the iron heads was a 13.22 @101 MPH. After the head change, my best was a 12.20 @110.65 MPH. This was with a jetted Q-jet, an SP1 intake, 118 cam, MT headers, and a race weight of about 4200 lbs.

Thanks for responding Larry. I guess i need to start to save some money right away. !

I have a set of 70 455 iron heads that i was thinking to convert to stg1. It might be better to buy som stg1 TA heads and from Gessler.

Re: Stage1 Iron vs. Stage 1 Alu SE Heads

Yes. Heads are where the power is. Engines are air pumps. The more air you can move through them, the more power you can make. Out of the box TA Stage 1 SE's with a good valve job will out flow some of the best ported iron heads. However, aluminum dissipates heat much faster, so using a higher compression ratio is required to get the best out of them. You can use up to 11:1 compression with them with the right cam and run pump gas. The Edelbrock heads can be a lower cost alternative. They are not quite as good as the TA heads, but you can get them CNC ported, and they will make great power. You have to use Chevy style rocker arms with them, which can be a good thing when it comes to cost (Chevy roller rockers are cheap). Greg Gessler can set you up with either head. I highly recommend his services, especially when it comes to the Edelbrocks. I am glad I have the TA heads, even if I had to pay more for them.
