Can it be done?

    Hey guys,

I have some rust 'bubbles' under my vinyl top below the back window.

The top is in very good condition, so I was wondering can it be 'peeled' back to get to the problem areas, and then re-glued?

    Thanks!

Not usually. My experience has been that the vinyl shrinks over time, and after it is pulled up from the glue, it's usually too small to put back down. Worth a try though, at the very worst, you may need to cut a small relief in the vinyl that you can patch after its re-glued. I also think that after you get the vinyl up you're going to find more rust than you want to.

when i got my 69 electra the front of the top had peeled up due to rust & the guy was driving it flappin in the breeze.i was able to peel it back a bit & sand SOME of the rust so i could re-glue & it turned out o.k.BUT i also found lots more rust just starting to hatch.if waters got under there,it going to rust.if i would have kept the car,i would have stripped the old top, sanded, primered & had someone replace it.i was quoted $350-$450 depending on the top material i chose.thats just the top & install,i would have done the rest.let the installer see it before you strip it off,he will want to take measurements.

When I got the seat fixed. I got a quote on replacing the top of $800 so I figure about half of that if I strip it and clean it up. I was really just hoping to save a little money. But it just doesn't sound like that is really a viable option.

Looks like I need to do some more begging.. why does the wife and kid think they need all these things like food? I need my car fixed.
