    Kia,

Which country are you from ? Reading your posts, I don't think it's N-America ?

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

Kia, check out your linkages from the shifter to the tranny. It sounds like something is binding up? :Do No:

Thats what I was thinking. Maybe the linkage at the tranny is rubbing the frame. I dont know how it looks on a 71, but on the 66 it is a really close fit between the frame and the transmission.

    Erik,
Don't you wonder sometimes, if these guys actually check what they write in a post? I doubt they speak like this, but they expect an answer to their question. Not sure if they are just being careless, or they can't speak the lanquage. :Do No: If you can see they are from a non-english speaking country, you can forgive it somewhat, like hacham from Israel.

Kia, Try to see if the rubber bushings that hold the linkage from the steering column to the transmission are not missing or out of place,

Probably the linkage, but does this happen only when you park with your front tires against something? I've done that a few times, and it put enough pressure on the steering that I couldn't take it out of park without pulling hard on the steering wheel. The steering wheel lock was binding.

The fault can also lie in the shifter mechanism. Don't know much about the Riv shifters, but on the GS shifters, the trigger lifts up 2 slides that unlock the shifter. The trigger is made of plastic, and when it cracks, it fails to lift one or both of the slides, which can lock up the shifter mechanism. This happened to me in Salem. Had to jury-rig the shifter, to get the car out of Park. Later fixed the problem with Mike Garrison's repro trigger, which is made from aluminum, and much sturdier. Just another possibility.

Could it possibly be a worn park in the tranny? Sorry for not being more exact, but I'm not sure of the correct wording for the part. Being it shifts hard when facing up or down hill, that would put more pressure on the park in the tranny. If it's worn, woudn't it shift out of park harder then?
