This hobby carries a lot of money with it, and that'll attract the thieves every time. Not just the direct theft but fraud, failing to pay for parts, stolen garage stuff. Having seen a couple of the "stolen" threads here, and my current problems with a local machine shop I was wondering how many of us have fallen victim?
I've wondered the same thing myself. I've also wondered why we park in driveways and drive on parkways.... Just stealing your thread.:Brow:
None of the above. I have received services which I considered "poor value" (i.e. didn't get as much as I expected for the money), but no outright criminal acts as described. Well my car did get totaled by some idiot, but that is not one of the options. Should be a crime, though. -Bob C.
...when you're done with that let me know how teflon, which sticks to nothing, sticks to the frying pan uzzled: I've had a case where payment was made but services were never rendered. Common fraud. I don't think unsatisfactory work can really be considered a crime though. I suppose there should be a None Of The Above option though... there's goot a be a few folks who've never hit one of these big snags.
It's a 9 billion dollar a year industry. Just be glad you don't own a 2004 Escalade and live in a ghetto.
One of the mechanics from the dealership where I work had his truck taken right in front of his stall while his back was turned yesterday. !!!! The nuts it takes to do that is incredible!!! The truck had the keys in it and it was like 50 feet away and he was under a car then he looked out as his truck was driving away...
Not yet for me. I just changed to a commercial grade lock and knob set for my garage. Nobody is getting in there, and even if they did they wouldn't come out as they had come in. :Brow:
Back around '87 I actually had some maniac slice the roof of my '70 convertible just so he could unlock the door and steal my $60.00 radar detector. I could have opened the lock in about 30 seconds with a coat hangar (and I did on several occasions when I locked the keys in the car), and this idiot had to cut a 1 year old top and pads that cost me $400.00 (in 1987 dollars!) to replace. That's one day I could've killed somebody. Their life meant less to me than my roof did. Since I'm pretty sure I'd hate being in jail, it's probably better I didn't catch him.
