Hey Guys! For quite a while John Simonson had been looking for a nice driver car..from what he's told me..he's searched out quite a few but without a deal. Well, John is no longer looking... ya see...he found a nice 2 door, 65 Skylark, 107K original miles...clean black bucket interior...300-4, auto, amateur but decent 10 footer paint...with SS Cragar wheels and RWL tires...rechromed bumpers and a bunch more he'll tellya about when he returns. Ya see, John found this car in my garage...yea...in the Tampa Bay area...out of total selfishness I bought this car because I wanted it..but because of the construction industry in serious failure mode...I found myself needing to sell it WAYY SOOONER than I wanted, just to make ends meet. John and I struck a deal that both he and I were comfortable with. John and his neighbor James flew into Tampa Intl Airport today at 11:30. And by 3:00, with a bellyfull of the BEST fresh Florida grouper and some T-shirts stuffed under their arms, they were headed north on i75 back home to Wisconsin! A few pix will be posted soon, and I'm certain John will fill in the details. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Well, it was late but we made it home last night, luckily we didnt' encounter any snow, but we did drive thru rain. Got up this morning and there was snow on the ground. I would like to THANK Wheelz for his help and honesty in this transaction, it means alot! 22 MPG on the trip home, with lots of wind....rain,...and traffic. Not bad for a 43 year old car! It ran great with seven stops for gas. Saw a lot of the country I have never seen before. Spent a little time here and there, we drove into Metropolis, Illinois, (home of Superman), took a few pics, grabbed lunch and went up 51 in Illinois, into Wisconsin and home. We drove 998 miles yesterday (2 miles short of 1000!) I asked the guy that was with me if he wanted to go a mile out of town and back just to make 1000 and he had a flat "NO" for me! He was really tired. I will post more later (after a little more sleep) along with more photos. Thanks again Wheelz, THE GROUPER SANDWICH WAS AWESOME!! :TU: John Scenery thru Nashville and Kentucky and Metropolis!
Happy for you John! Had I known about the grouper and T shirts, I would have went along. I saw the pictures a while back, gald your happy with it. We all new that a Camaro just was not you! Now I guess I have a lot of time to finish that 4 Speed:3gears: Look forward to seeing it in person. Your last one is still on on my buliten board!:kodak: Rich
Thanks Rich,......it was a grueling trip, glad to be home, even with the snow. Can't wait to clean her up and take her to shows, etc. Got alot of thumbs up on the way home, stopped at a gas station and some guy asked me "WHAT YEAR IS YOUR IMPALA"??? !!! o No: I laughingly told him "I DON'T OWN AN IMPALA"! He pointed to the Skylark and said, what's that then?? I told him a 65 BUICK SKYLARK,....he said, (and this is no joke).....That's a Buick! I didin't know they made anything like that! OH THE HUMANITY!! :3gears:
Um John...I don;t remember seeing that "SARA" gal in your car...where'd you keep her stored? Worst part is..you didnt share.... O'&BTW...you need to change your signature....you can remove that LOOKING FOR A BUICK text...you found a sweet car! Great meeting you and Jim the "Grouper sandwich inhaler extrodinaire" :Brow: ..and ThanX for making the deal a very smooth transaction! I would sell to you ANY DAY!!! Positive feedback is in order!....Talk again soon! Wheelz, :bglasses: Tampa Bay
Nice car guys! So wheelz, you bought this car out of CA? Now from FL to WI. This car has seen more of the country than I!! John, are you going to sign up for the BDE as it is in Neenah this year? It looks like you have an appropriate ride:TU:
Oh Yeah,.....we were discussing the avatar, I guess you are right, there are flowers in that photo!! p BTW,....Jim didn't stop eating the whole way home......the guy inhales everything that is in his wway!! LOL. Of course he has a big frame to maintain! I was a little concerned when he signed up for the trip he wouldn't fit in the car!! Thanks for the kind words regarding feedback, the same goes likewise. Thank you!
Thanks for the comments Matt, Love the car.......and my neighbor (the guy that went with on the trip) says he would like to start looking for a classic Buick to buy. I think I have him hooked! I sure hope to join the BDE this year, sounds like a fun week. Do you know if there is any room left?? Finally woke up,...been sleeping all day!
I think there is still room left. Sign up dead line is April 15th!! I'll PM you John Koutre's email/contact info. I wish I could do the whole tour but John was gracious enough to work things out for me on the Kohler leg of the journey. BTW... Nice Impala:TU::bglasses:
Thanks Matt, I will contact him, it should be fun! IMPALA!...o No: ...that was soooo funny, I mean, they aren't even close in size! What do you expect when you obviously have Chevy on the brain. What's that old saying,....THIS IS YOUR BRAIN.......THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON CHEVY.......:blast: It was comical to say the least.
John I love your new ride. And it not because we have the same car and color!!!! Best of luck, and enjoy!! Is this your first 65? Love the coupe. Mine is a post sedan but still a nice ride.:3gears: I will own a coupe some day. P.S. I just made a deal today for a 65 Drop Top:Brow: . Hope to have it in a week or so.( Damn that makes 6!! ) I have to go see a Dr.:spank:
Thanks Joe,.....actually, this is my 3rd 65 model. I had a 65 Special convert, I sold several years ago to a guy in Minnesota, and 2 years ago I sold my 65 GS post coupe to a guy in Arizona. Now I have this one and it is SWEEEET! Thanks again!
I drove her home from Seattle and it was a fun trip as well . If she was a lady she's sure been around , LOL !!!! Enjoy her :beer
OK, I wasn't getting any good sleep until I got the car washed, so, after church this morning I took it over to the shop and gave 'er a warm soaping and rinse. Cleaned her up good, brought it back home and took these shots. I have had several neighbors stop and look today and they all agree,.........NICE CAR! :eek2: I should sleep well tonight.... Tank ya den!
