    Hi:

I have a 68 Skylark, 4 dr HT with the 350 4 bbl. It has 74900 original miles on it. When I stomp on it at about 30 the Q-jet hesitates before it kicks in. The trans is a powerglide. Any quick fixes for this problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

I would try to adjust the secondary air valve spring. There is a flathead screw on the passenger side (where the vacuum linkage connects to the top) that has an allen head set screw. You insert your allen wrench into the screw (from the bottom), insert your screwdriver and hold the screw in place while you loosen the allen head set screw. Once the set screw is loose, slightly turn the screwdriver less than a quarter turn clockwise, then retighten the set screw. Give it a drive. You can re-adjust but be very careful not to get it too tight as the spring will pop off, and the metering rods my not come out far enough if it's too tight. The bog is typically those air doors opening too quickly.

Check the secondary pull off vacume pot. It should be located on the passenger side of the carb at the front. It will be connected to the carb with a short vacume hose. You know you have the right one because it will have a rod coming from it going to the secondary flap. When you apply vacume to it it should pull in and hold the secondary flaps from opening. Make sure it resopnds to vacume and hold vacume. If it doesn't do what it is supposed to then when you mash your peddal the secondarys open too quickly and it bogs. If the pull off is the problem I picked one up for about $20 canadian, so they are pretty cheap. It will only take a minute or two to change and will eliminate your problem if that is the issue. Good luck!

Can you provide more details re the hesitation or bog? Does it only occur cold? Did it just start bogging? Did any changes precipitate the bogging? Let me know... Ray
