When I drove my car last Friday ,when I would let it set for some time and try to start it ,I had to hold the gas pedal down to get it to start and it smelled flooded. I think the carb is getting heat soaked.Im running A q jet carb with A 1/4 gasket .I was wondering what should I do.I run gas with ethanol in it,that is all I can buy local .I have read ethanol boils easy .
Something like this might help. It blocks the radiant heat off the intake. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...MIgu-lorT32gIVVVmGCh2MewKtEAQYASABEgJpr_D_BwE https://www.ebay.com/i/252484953436?chn=ps If you aren't running the stock choke, blocking the cross over is the best option.
There is a spot in the bottom of those Q-Jets that can leak gas out of the bowl if not mistaken I read about it somewhere.
OK thanks guys for the help. I don't understand my GS A different car never did get heat soaked ,basically the same engine. The only thing may be the ethonal in the gas now days,I never ran ethonal gas in the GS.
I made A heat shield this evening out of some 16oz sheet copper I had. I left the carb on and used some cardboard and made A template using two pieces that notched around the carb and folded around each other. It looks A little crude but kinda cool made of copper.I test drove the car and temp got to 190,and the intake was very hot and the carb was cool.I think this is going to take care of my problem ,I will find out tomorrow me and my son are taking it on A trip .I didn't have time to buy something so I figured I would make something with what I had.
