Now that I have my 72 skylark custom running, I have a question about the carb. When I first bought the car the guy said when he got it, it didn't have a carb on so he bought one and didn't know if it was the right one or not. Well I drove the car home and started to tinker around and noticed that it would hesitate if you hit the gas hard. After examining it, the base gasket wasn't on all the way and the bolts weren't in all the way, after I did that, I played around with the mixture screws and set the timing and what not, it seemed to work a bit better. Then I find out it has a cracked exhaust valve so I decided to rebuild the whole engine. Now that I got it back together and running, it still hesitates. I figured it was because the carb was tuned to the old engine. I have played around with it and it still seems to hesitate, it doesn't help that i live in Michigan and it does have a choke on it. Then I really looked at it today and it is a 71 Chevy Rochester Quadrajet. I could possibly have a vacuum leak somewhere but haven't gotten around to checking, I guess what I am getting at is will this carb work and/or do I need to modify replace anything on for it to work for a Buick, or do I need to get a new carb all together.

If it hesitates at mild acceleration, then it is probably the accelerator pump. If it hesitates or bogs under full acceleration, then the rear flap needs to be adjusted.
