    I got a rebuilt Q-jet off of a 1980 pontiac I think.

    1. I noticed that the trany kick down connection on the carb hangs down to low and hits the stock manifold. Would it be OK just to cut that part off?

    2. This carb has a stove pipe choke connection ( I think thats the word) and my manifold has the spring and wire thing in the manifold. Is my best solution just to install a manual choke?

    3. or should I just find a proper carb?

    4. What aftermarket carb would work best on the 350 GS type of engine?

The EASIEST thing to do is find a carb with a divorced choke on it like your manifold has. THen you won't have to worry about installing a choke cable for manual, or trying to retrofit an electric choke. OR you could get and Edelbrock or Holley with the electric choke on it already. All you have to do is run a wire that runs off the ignition switch.
