I'm looking into a new carb for my 69 GS California. Car has a it's original 350. I would like to know if it's possible to bolt on a quadrajet off of a 455. It would seem to me that the bolt configuration would be the same and should work without a hitch. A 70/71 800cfm Quadrajet a good idea? What casting numbers provide the most performance for these carbs?

    Aubrey,
Sure it will bolt on, the throttle bore sizes and bolt pattern are identical. On the 800's the outer venturi is an 1/8" bigger giving 50 cfm more capacity. There was no such thing as an 800 cfm 350 carb. Starting in 1971, all 455 carbs were 800's. The biggest difference between a small block carb and a big block carb is in the idle circuit. A 455 needs more air to idle than a 350. So, what that means is an 800 is good for a 350 that has alot of cam, and needs the extra air to idle. I believe there are guys on this BB that have made an 800 work on their small block, so it is possible. 7041242, 7041243, 7041540, 7042240,7042242, 7042243, 7042942, 7043242, 7043243, 7043240, 7044240, 7044242, 7044141 are all 800 455 carbs. That will give you a place to start looking. Happy hunting.

Thanks a lot Larry! I'm always so pleased by the help I receive when I use this forum; where else could a person find such friendly, helpful assistance?
I'm going to look around for 800 cfm Quadrajet. I was really pleased with the original I had, my new Holley just doesn't compare.

  4. Not that there's anything wrong with a 455 1970 750cfm qjet on a 350... that's what I'm swapping to this spring. My 68 had a 625 Carter when I bought it a couple years ago.
