What is the correct fuel line to use to connect the carb and fuel pump.I know we use 3/8 rubber fuel line or dress it up with braided SS,but how did it come from the factory? Can I purchase it,or possibly have brake line bent with the correct fittings?
Hi Tom, When I did my 350 4bbl intake swap I needed a new 4bbl fuel pump to carb line - I bought mine from Inline Tube - super quick shipping and it fit perfectly.
I dont think they make a pre bent line for a 350. Your going to have to get a piece of 3/8" steel line and bend it up. It was steel from the factory. I wouldnt recommend rubber. If you can get the car over here, I can bend one up for you.
They were steel lines from the pump to the carb from the factory. I used inline as well for my 455. Perfect fit. They make them for 350's as well as the 6 cylinder cars.
Chris has the answer. I didnt realize they made one. That sounds like the easiest and less strain on my backp
That was quick, thanks guys.Chris, did that come with the fittings also? Thanks for the offer Jason,it's always a privilege to visit a celebrity at your humble ranch.
I got my pre bent steel line from www.yearone.com Im sure its made by someone else... but it fit perfectly with just minor tweeking so the threaded ends lined up perfectly... My car had a rubber line from the pump because it had a HEI distributor The factory style pre bent line wont fit around the big cap HEI. So when I put the original style distributor back in with the Crane XRi kit, it was a perfect opportunity to add the metal line. http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/part.asp?cat=2&pid=A01520&c=0&e=0&hid=214AB56771&trk= Its $36... I dont think I paid that much for it a couple yrs ago.
I just finished my cam swap and 4bbl conversion. I bought that one from YearOne. It was a tight fit, but a good fit
I didn't think of that.I have the HEI with cap,so I guess that won't work for me.Looks like I'll have to make one.
>>Hi Tom, It did come with the fittings - though it sounds like you might have to bend a pipe up to go around your HEI distributor - I have a stock distributor with the ignitor II electronic ignition hidden inside so I did not have clearance issues.
The fittings are built into the line and are held in place by the flairs. I think you will find the price including shipping is generally much better at The Parts Place realtive to Year One. The both get their shipments out pretty quick as opposed to say OPGI. Postons has too many compalints pending here for me to consider them.
Make sure you know if you need one for a Stage-1 pump as standard 455 fule pump uses a different line. Anyone looking for nice rubber fuel line that goes from frame fuel line to pump with "GAS" "GAS" like original on it check with Ames Pontiac. It is nice stuff but pricey. I lucked out and got a piece from them at a local show. Woman at booth told me it was three feet and charged me for that. It was coiled up and I thought it might be more. Got home and it was 8 feet! WOW.
Take A Magnet Along When You're Selecting What Line To Get. Stainless Steel Is Very Slow To Absorb Heat So Less Chance Of Fuel Percolation. That's Why They Use Stainless For Heat Shields. Good Luck
Here is a pre-bent line with the stock distributor... notice there is not much room so a custom bent line or rubber line is your option with the HEI
I converted to HEI and I dont remember there being a big issue with the fuel line... The 1" carb spacer- thats another story.
