Who broke what at this years race? I will start. After the burnout in round 2,I. heard a loud pounding in the bottom end, idled down the track and put it in the trailer. Drove it out of the trailer and onto the hoist with good oil pressure. rinke stopped by on the way to the airport. I told him it was loud, his eyes almost came out of his head, his comment was pull it out, it is broke good? Sounds like a piston or rod isolated to one cylinder. Valve train looks ok, trans and clutch are ok and good. This will get interesting and I am sure expensive!
Some transmission issues for me. Got er out and should have it fixed before too long. See you at Martin:blast:
Broken shifter......couldn't power shift....gave away my last two passes. Way to go Dale W....you got game brother! Sorry to hear about the breakage there Jeff. Can't thank you enough for the tequila and wine!
I cant believe I forgot about thatou: Ok....transmission and center cap issues. Thanks again for running that over to me. Much appreciated. :TU: :TU: :TU:
My white Buick came up wounded friday shortly after noon time. Sounds like a rod bearing. After 5 years of abuse I guess it was due. A BIG thanks to Joe Shepard for letting me drive the black Buick.
Water pump froze up on the 69 Late Friday. New water pump early Sat. morning, thanks to Dave Beyer for grabbing all of the parts sat. morning in Saginaw before coming back out to the track.
The '72 AMX tore a motor mount. We had a spare and was ready to go in short order. First round broke the right axle shaft. Luckily unlike GM cars they are held in place and it did not eject itself. Tim C.'s experience is enough for all us PS'rs. So much for those Strange axles being tough. It has about 50 passes on it and they let go. Mark
Not carnage, but I noticed in the staging lanes before the first elimination run that my volt gauge was on full charge. Had to disconnect the alternator wire before my three passes to keep from exploding the battery. Changed the alternator yesterday, everything is fine now.
Don't know about the Stude guy. We decided to make the trip with my 69' GP for its first appearance at the Pure Stocks. I've had a lifter tick since putting the engine in a few weeks ago. It never got worse, but never got better either. No type of oil or additive helped. After re-lashing the valves and checking compression, the car just ran worse and worse. Indications are that a cam lobe has been wiped out. But, I might be wrong. I am trailering the car to my engine builder on Friday. This really sucks, because this engine was just redone! But, there ARE worse things in life! (Cam and lifters are from Comp Cams...) Also, I should have listed to Tim Clary - the Centerforce DFX clutch is just too noisy and chatters!
Joe, that Grand Prix is bitchin'! This coming from a ford dude. I was bummed when I heard of the issue and that it wouldn't be making runs. I also kick myself for not getting back to take some pictures. Saturday, my buddy asked me what my favortie car there was. I think it was yours. Its just so unique. Hope to see it back next year, fixed and rarin' to go! Mike
I feel your pain Joe. Jeremy and I are facing the same problems with my Buick. Ran it at Martin and wiped a lobe on the cam. Guess now we have a good winter project of rebuilding the motor. Oh well now we can make some more changes. At least Jeremy shares his car with me.
Update, I found that I lost a lash cap when I lost one of the poly locks, I must have not noticed it when i relashed it and it eventually dropped, I found part of it on the oil drain plug. I still do not know what damage it did, I found half of it in 3 pieces. I think it still needs to come out and checked over.any opinions ?
Mcford, Thanks for the compliment - but as all could see my car is still real "rough". It's been repainted once, and it was undercoated (Ziebart) at one time. Still, despite the set back - I love the car. It's a legit one and it took me 12 years to find! Eventually the car will look better, and might even get a color change. More importantly it will (must) run better! There are plenty of Fords I like; my Dad was a Ford and Lincoln/Mercury wrench at several different dealers from around 70' to 75'. Fortunately and thanks to guys like you, I've now seen a great variety of Fords run.
I had a rear tire go flat on the black Buick late saturday morning. Luckily it was just a rouge screw that I was able to plug. Now to get some more plugs as it was the last one I had.
