I need a new rug in the Wildcat, and I got this quote for it:

    >>A replacement carpet with new padding installed in your 1970 Buick is $500.00. This is special order and takes about 5-7 business days for shipping.

If you supply the carpet labor will be about $300.00 to install your carpet.

    <<<

The labor sounds high to me. Is this a fair price?

    TIA Frank

Carpet is about $130 shipped from www.accmats.com

    Can you do it yourself?

EDIT: 70 WIldcat carpet is apparently made of platinum. $255???

EDIT2: Prices look like they've gone up across the board. I paid $130 shipped in 2003 for my Centurion, and now it's up to $205.

    >>That quote is too high. I paid $600 to have a new carpet installed, bench seat removed, brackets welded in for buckets and bucket seat installation, as well as console installation.

Ya, don't pay someone that much. Fairly easy job. It takes nerve when you cut however as one mistake and you are $""" out of luck! Cut small first then more as needed.

Hardly....when I cut the carpet the next day I was going to claim YOU said it would work if anyone mentioned anything. As it turned out, it worked well as no one could tell anything. Two heads were better than one anyway and you did plenty of work. :TU:

Frank--whatever price you got is what it costs for a pro to do the job and make some money to keep the business operating. All their prices "seem high" but you are paying them for their experience and knowledge. It's not a one or two hour job IMO and they don't work for free, nor should they. It "seems" like a one or two hour job when you run through the steps in your mind......remove seat (it's only 4 nuts/bolts), remove backseat(bottom pops out and back is only 2 bolts), remove seatbelts (again, only a few bolts), pull old, set in new, cut a few holes and walla....put a few things in and it's done....HA HA HA!! I WISH!

Having done this recently I can tell you it takes MUCH LONGER. The quality of the carpets these days IN TERMS OF FIT AND HOW THEY TRIM THEM...........IS TERRIBLE. I'm talking about ACC carpet sold through Legendary...both major vendors. Let's just say laying the carpet in there the first time was just the beginning of the real work.

Maybe you get lucky and get a set with better molded areas and better trimming on the edges....I think it's a coin toss.

Legendary needs to have a talk with their carpet suppliers. The only thing Legendary about the last experience I had with ACC carpet was the amount of time it took to get it in and get it to look half decent. That's where it helps to have a pro do it.

Trim Parts....again probably just another distributor for ACC.

What I did when I replaced my carpet was let the new carpet sit out a couple days to "flatten". Then I removed the old carpet, laid it over the new carpet and used the old carpet as a template for cutting any holes. The new carpet then went in like a piece of cake. It was super-easy to do... plus... you find change under the seats and carpet :) Paul
