i have a 68 gs and i have the stock am/fm radio in there now. I was wondering if there is anywhere i can put a deck besides where the stock one is now. I dont think i can put it there without cutting out the two bars behind the radio. any help would be appreciated.

This is what I have been planning. I don't know if you can do this, because I have a console between my seats.

I have a Buick Stock radio that I want to put in the dash for appearance's sake and a 'wow' factor.

I have had no glove box for years, and never missed it because of the console. So, I plan on:

making a secure and tamper-proof box behind the glove box to hold the "real" audio system, which will be a CD changer. I'll keep a remote in the console to control it, and I will keep the box locked up by using the glove box lock. I'll still be able to access the changer by simply unlocking the glove box door and opening it. I'm sure I can bounce a signal off something when the door is closed, so the remote will work with this setup.

This works in theory, I haven't had the dough to try it out. I'm saving money for engine parts instead. But this should work.

Unlike Chris, I like to keep mine a little closer to home.

There was no way I would cut the dash for a CD player, so I decided to put it in the console. My lid was already discolored and chipped on the top, and I had been planning on replacing it, so cutting the lid did not phase me at all. If you decide to go this route, it's a lot easier than putting it anywhere in the dash as you only have to run the wire out the bottom of the console and under the carpet. I did have to be sure to get a shorter player and I cut a hole in the bottom of the console as well for a better fit. If I decide to go back to stock, I only need to find a console lid, though I would not like to think how hard that will be... :puzzled:

  5. That will be mighty hard to find, without damage. Seems they all get cracked along the way. Just weren't made to be sat on, etc...

Here's how I did it...........I got an "FM modulator", which plugs into my cigarette lighter and plays CD's through channel 108 FM..........no hacking of the car necessary.

I leave the portable player on a non-slip pad on my console and so far it works great. At the car shows all I need to do is unplug it and shove it in the glove box. When I show my car all you can see is the stock radio.

I also have a 160 watt amp that I keep under my dash on a magnet mount, that I can remove...........it plugs into a wiring harness I made that I keep under the dash. The subwoofer tube is in my trunk, and I used 2 small 80W co-axial speakers in front (on a plate with 2 holes in the stock center grille) and 2 in the back seat, also in the stock opening. I have 2 more 6x9's hidden behind the back seat, mounted to a board for increased midrange.

It's amazing how good a stock radio can sound amplified through better speakers. :Brow:

Secret Audio makes a radio that uses an RF remote instead of infrared so it doesn't need "line of site" to work. You can put the box under a seat, behind the dash, in the trunk where ever you want. The remote can be hand held or mounted on a visor. It can also contol a CD changer in the trunk if you want.

A second option is to use a twin shaft radio that looks somewhat stock. These can control a cd changer or you can use an fm modulator and run a portable CD player. I like the FM modulators because I can run an MP3 player through instead.

I haven't used any of these, nor do I work for the company. I've just been looking for a way to have a good sound system while looking stock.
