There are many mysteries in life such as how a ship can fit into a bottle. I have one to add to the list- I am installing a center console in my 70 GS. The automatic shifter handle appears to be bolted onto the shifter mechanism from the bottom. as it is a one piece H handle how does one do this as the console covers it?
You have to remove the chrome horshoe, then remove the screws in the sides of the handle. You can then pull the handle off. After the mechanism is bolted to the floor drop the console on and put the handle back on.
There are 4 screws 2 for the handle and 2 for the pull up bar. Also be careful pulling the handle off the Chrome handle bottom, the 50 year old plastic can be a little brittle and the reproduction handle parts are not exactly the same.
