Anyone ever hear of George Ray's dragstrip? I know this sounds goofy, normal for me, but its an unaffilated 1/8 mile in Paragould ARK. No entry fee, $6 for spectators, all heads up racing, Always wanted to go there! http://www.geocities.com/chuckygeorgeray/ Dave Berry
Yeah, that sounds like a good deal, racing is free, but it is located in Northeast Arkansas close to Jonesboro, a rough 5+ hour drive from me, would be good for those on that part of the Mississippi river area maybe? -Chris
Ok heres the skinny If we get involved with setting a date for a race of some sort I can help BUT not as a single race I will set it up as a race in a race. I know 1 of the track promoters vaguely so I may be able to find a date where we all can play as a BUICK only race but be able to be in the brackets and or whatever too. I will do some investigating and post later Oh yea count me and Cindy in for participation
count me in. where ever it is. Depending on the date I may or may not have the GS ready(probably april or may realisticly) either way I'm there.:bglasses:
I am game for a GTG, How about Kearney or Denver( Bandamire( for Racing. or Even BSing I will be there if it is within a days drive. Tim
Heartland Park Here is a sugestion, since we should not try to pay for a track ourselves. Why don't we pick a regular scheduled race day and pay our entry fee and race. The payouts are pretty good ex. 1200 pro, 750 sportsman. And usually payout the top 8.There would be plenty of room if people just wanted to come and hangout with there cars also. The pits have a rather large asphalt parking lot. HPT will be under new ownership this year but I believe it wil be for the better. Thurs and fri. gruge night should be back for next year. PLus from May til Sept every Sat night there is a cruise night somewhere in Topeka. So here is the rundown, Fri night test and tune, SaT day race, Sat night cruise night. Sounds like a good weekend to me. This could be a good indicator for future Midwest attendence. From Topeka Denver 7hrs St Louis 4.5 hrs Oaklahoma City 5 Hrs.
I have already talked to the Scribner track owner about getting something scheduled along with regular racing. This is a nice track if Scribner is in the running let me know and I will get the ball rolling. I will look into the Hotel situation and anything else that is needed. Does Davey want to come over to my house to play.:beer
party at Todd's Lincoln is a fun town, if you are willing to set it up I'll be there. As long as we don't have to try to pay for the track ourselves(BPG). I think Kansas City, Topeka, or Lincoln would all be good locations.
never gonna live it down OUCH!!!!:eek2: ok Mike this year you're gonna have to put the smack down on your wifes car or you'll never hear the end of this:laugh: jeff
OK What date OK lets throw out some dates and I will talk to Greg Sanford and get something scheduled for Scribner. This doesn't mean that we can't have another get together at Topeka. We don't have all the events close so I think we need more than one informal get together in the midwest. And if you have it along with a scheduled race we don't pay anything but normal gate fees, then we can get our own Gamblers races or whatever. It will not be a problem for them to call us up to the staging lanes as a group, we have done this every year where I work we have a company picnic at the track. Actually even in time trials I wanted to put the smackdown on this 62 Chevy and he came to the line in our group and they pulled him out and I had to run by myself, Oh well timeslips talk and BS walks. Actually the nearby town we would be hanging out in is Fremont. Lets have some dates and I will take care of the rest.:TU: And Dave you can bring Mike along but he don't play nice with the other kids.
Re: Heartland Park Dave, You bring up a good point with the cruise night. That would be a lot of fun. Just imagine the look on the faces of all the stang owners as a gaggle of Hot A** Hopped-up Buicks on steroids come rummbling into the pepboys parking lot with time slips in hand. Just one thing, non of this can happen untill I get a Buick to drive myself.
73' Eric, I don't know if you've had a chance yet or not but Freedster , Mike, Freedsters friend Eric and myself went for a short ride in that car while we were there last sat. and that is one sweet deal on wheels! I know if I had the cash I would snag it in a heartbeat just because the body is in such great shape. Nice car indeed!:TU: No matter where or what we decide to do about the get together,we definitely need a cruise along with it. Like you said it would be too cool to see a bunch of Buicks all rumbling down the street at the same time while watching the Mustang and ricer crowd bow to our presence. :eek2: All hail the mighty GS:grin:
lets go racing Eric if you are looking for a car with a nice ride and a solid body you can't beat Mike's 73. I keep egging mike on to put a 455 in it. It allready has the posi. That car would be a blast to blow the doors off a bunch of mustangs or camaro's. With or without the AC on. Todd I would say middle of June or Sept. lets stay away from july and aug. just too darn hot. Then which ever month everyone picks for Scribner the second date could be at Heartland Park. Maybe just a picnic get together in april on a sat just to get everyone together. This could be used to plan future events and what people would want out of belonging to the bpg or other clubs. I have plenty of room at my house to grill out and watch my big screen. I sure Mike G. can supply some great vcr footage. It sounds to me like people are wanting to get to know faces and not just user names. PARTY ON GARTH:TU:
