    Adam,
Got the UR55's today. They look like an excellent plug, and visibly look just like the Champion RV15YC4's that I am currently using. They are indeed a projected nose plug, and should give the same benefits in my engine. Overall they are a little shorter. Here's a picture of the Champion and NGK plugs side by side. Thanks again Adam.

Ditto on the Champion bashing. When I've used them in the past the car runs fine for about a week or so then starts missing. GM-AC , Ford-Motorcraft, Mopar-?:3gears:

Yupp, couldn't really feel the difference though. Was told it cuts down on the life of the plug, so haven't done it for awhile.

Cool! I'm glad it worked out. And alot of people thought us NGK user were just "wierdos." I thought they made a difference, and now I know the likely reason why.

By the way, the V-groove is supposed to accomplish the same thing as the J-gap, or the other "designer plug" gimmicks.

    Larry,
If I'm using the AC-R44 plug what would the number for the NGK plug be? Where did you get yours??
    Thanks,Kenny

    Kenny,
As near as I can tell, the UR55's are equivalent to about a 43 heat range in AC, so the same plugs I'm using will work in your car. Try them. I couldn't find them in any local stores, they don't stock NGK's for American cars. I ordered them from www.rockauto.com 1.52/each +5.39 shipping, if you order 16 it works out to 1.85/each.

Guys, I think that at least my local Autozone stocks them and Champion Auto if you have them in your area. Of course Autozone trys to sell you the latest 6-prong, split-electrode unobtanium cored Super-Dave Osborne endorsed plug instead.

    Alan,
What plug gap do you use? The UR55's have a .059 gap. NGK says you can open or close that .008 I 'll run a .051, and the MSD Digital6 will fire that easily. The UR5 is the same plug in a .039 gap, so if you are using a .045 gap, that would be your plug.

I run the RS9YC Champions (formerly BN-9Y).....picked up power over anything else I've tried. Would not recommend with over 11-1 comp due to the long reach and chance of preignition.

I had problems with AC a while back with plugs that did NOT say made in US.

    Bruce,
I remember reading about those plugs in the GSExtra. They take up more room in the combustion chamber, giving a slight compression increase. They are also a projected nose plug(Y in the plug # means projected tip). They cross over to the AC R--LTS plug. What I didn't like was those threads exposed in the combustion chamber(sharp edges promote pre-ignition) Still, if they work for you, use them:TU:

    Alan,
Get the UR5's, and open them up to .045, unless you plan on upgrading to MSD:Brow:

    Alan,
Last night for some reason thier website wouldn't process my order. I had to call them this morning and ordered them. I only got 2 sets for myself, shipping is only $5.24.
Larry says you take a different size anyway,so no problem.
Just as well, I didn't order another set!:TU:

    GS Plugs

I wouldn't reccomend the NGK's. Used a set in a Big Block Chevy and the cermanic cracked. Later put a set in my 70 Riv. and had the same problem. Local mechanic replaced 4 sets of them last year that had cracks. Local parts store put them on a half price sale here and now he sees more of them than ever. Don't remember the particular part number. What about the Rapid Fires? I have them in my Riv now.

    Re: GS Plugs

    John,
I really don't think there is a problem with NGK plugs. According to the Tri-Shield Performance website, Jim Weise uses the NGK V-Power plugs in all the engines he builds(from Mild to Wild). Jim is pretty up on everything, and if there was a problem with NGK, I think he would have told us about it long ago. If they are good enough for him, they are good enough for me. Don't know how to explain your experience. The only time any plug has cracked on me, is if I overtightened it, or didn't have the socket fully engaged on the plug while removing it.:Do No:

    My Luck

Well, this all happened in 2003. Both my vehicles had the problem and the mechanic said it happened this past year too. Bad production run maybe? They all can't be bad or you guys would not have sucess with them! One vehicle had headers and I installed them. I don't think I damaged them. The other one was installed by a mechanic who was working on my engine. Luck ususllay works aginst me.
