    Good morning,

I have a question. Is there a low budget way of removing and reinstalling the upper control arm bushings, or should one go to a machine shop and have them do it.

    Thanks in advance

You can do it yourself as long as you have the objects in the picture and a large C-clamp. Make sure you support the arm in the middle (hence the socket) or else the arm will collapse as you drive the bushing in.

When you changed them out how did you get the Upper contol arm shaft out.

I was lucky, mine were kinda loose. But you have to drive one out to remove the shaft. A vise and a large piece of pipe to support the arm but allow the bushing to be driven out the bottom was what I used. Oh yeah, a BFH too!

To get them out you can also drill several holes in the rubber all around the bushing. Then drive our the center and ultimately collaps the outer and remove it. Takes a while but it worked for me.

When installing the new ones put them in your freezer for a few hours before you install them. They will shrink a little and it makes them a lot easier to install. When I installed my rear one I used a 16oz hammer and could not get them started but tried the freezer trick and they went right in.
