I am looking for a check valve and adaptor for a 1972 455 car. This sits on the left side of the intake manifold and is fitted with a screw-on check valve. This valve has a one -way diaphragm which is connected through a hose connecting to the diverter valve on the air pump. The brace from the air pump also bolts onto this part. This is the only part I need to complete my restoration. I believe they are the same for all 455's for 72 and possibably later years. I could not find a part number!! Mike
Thanks Jim, I do appreciate the help. Now if I could just find the part!! Apparently there is someone out east who is supposedly the air pump king, I just do not know who it is. Heard the name once, but did not write it down!!
If you can supply a pic or drawing, I may be able to get a used one from a 73-5 Regal that the local u-pull-it yard got in. Need a reply before 11pm Eastern on Friday. Will be at the yard on Sat.
Mike, I may be able to locate one of them around here. I'm a little confused as to which exact part you are after. The check valve on that intake pipe is what I thought you were after when reading the first part of your post. But you then mention being attached to the smog pump brace Tim
On the left side of the manifold there is an air runner (looks like a round tube that runs from the back to front of each side of the manifold). 72 has a very wierd looking manifold. There is a 1/2" hole on the top of this runner. A plate with a tube coming out of the top bolts to the top of this air runner. Attached to the tube is the check valve. This then is connected by a 5/8" rubber hose to the diverter valve which sits on the back of the air pump. In addition there is a third bolt on this plate that connects a brace (about 20" long) that bolts to the plate and the back of the air pump. Sure appreciate all the help. I truly need the plate/tube as I could attach the hose directly to the tube until I find a check valve. The chassis restoration manual has a very vague picture, but not much help. I have a picture of a Kleiner restored Stage 1, but it was to big to post. No photo software!! Thanks again for the help, Mike
Mike, I will take a look at our 73 Electra parts car to see what all is there. I guess I have never seen the 20" long brace that connects to the plate on the tube on any of our cars. I was always curious what that fixed nut was for on the plate, so now I know.
Tim, The brace was missing in the photo that Keith provided. This just might make me go out and buy some photo shop software as I have a good picture but can not reduce it to post. Anyway, I truly appreciate the help. By the way, if someone needs a good alternator with a Stage 1 pulley, or a good carb, I can get the numbers, please let me know. I pulled them off a very good running car and they can now go to a new home. At some point in the future, I will put out a post with all this stuff advertised, but if someone has an immediate need!! Mike
