chem removal

    before i take my 72 skylark to the body shop to get redone....should i strip as much paint as possible via chem/scraper or would they not want to touch it/create probloms with the finished product/ the shop cutting corners..please respond asap

    I tend to shy away from chemical strippers. If any traces of it are left on the metal, it could have a reaction with the new paint. You could get the car media blasted, but there is a possibility that the sheetmetal could warp if the operator is inexperienced or the wrong media is used. The safest method by far would be to mechanically strip the car via a dual action sander. Things to consider

    I would talk to your shop doing the work. They usually like to strip there way that way they know what to expect. If you do a chemical strip they may not warranty their work blaming you for leaving residue on the panels or in between the panels. . Also many places can get the body media blasted CHEAP. May not be worth your time and stripping media.
