I thought I might post some pictures of the 66 GS as it comes along in this thread. It might motivate me to work on it more, and may provode some spark for others as well. If this does not seen to be a good Idea just let me know.

First up is a before and after of the trunk floor (complete with little helper). Had I known it was as much work as it has been, I might have thought twice about the purchase.

I had the same thinking on my 71 after I decided to 1/4 it.I have as much work in the outer wheelhouse(40-45 HRS) as I do the rest of the car.I could have just patched it up but,I would always known how it was under there.I am not the greatest bodyman but I feel satisfied with it in the end and really gained alot of respect to people who do it for a living. When I look at the pics of when I first got it and the ones of now,I really came a long way.Still a long way yet but I am getting a better result in the end.

Good to see you have a "helper." You may give that guy a life-long hobby and something more productive to spend his money on than a lot of kids do. That in itself should make such a tough project worthwhile.

By the way, I learned alot while working on basket-cases before I swore them off. I only have 2 left to complete! :Dou:

    Glad you posted the pics

    Cheryl,
I'm glad you decided to post the pics showing your progress on your '66 and of course 'your helper'! I can tell from the pics that you have undertaken quite a project and I have nothing but admiration for you. There's probably a lot of us guys that wouldn't have tackled it.

Keep that little helper involved as much as he wants; it does tend to rub off on them. My youngest son, now 29, just bought his first 'old' car - a '67 GS400. We spent a good bit of time working on his old truck when he was in high school, and he was pretty good at helping me out on my '66!

Keep us posted on your progress. I'm sure it's going to look great! Especially when it comes time to sit that engine in it.....

    Rust Never Sleeps!

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. My helper never stays too long, but at least it attracts his interest for a little while.

Every time I take a piece of moulding off, I find more rust! I am very glad there is none left to take off. Attached is a picture of the latest issues lurking under the mouldings. It looks like the welder will do more then collect dust this week. The last shot shows the trunk support, mount replacement and the new trunk 1/3 sheet metal welded into place. I am very glad that is done. It had to be just so to be square to all sides.

you have one advantage [besides the helper] i dont have, an indoor space to do the work. my 67 has the same rust issues and i get to try to do the surgery i need to do outside :ball: . i can do the cutting and prep work easy enough, form the lower panels to the quarters, and attach them with pop rivets, but the city frowns on me welding right next to the road in front of my house. imagine that :puzzled:. looks like you are doing a pretty good job so far.

    Cheryl,
My hat is off to you. I am having a 32 ft X 32 ft garage built and will be finished this coming week if all goes well. I am planning on taking a welding class at our Community College if my work schedule will allow. IMHO Welding is an art form to be admired. I have really appreciated your knowledge you have shared on this forum from time to time with your many posts. I hope your helper gets the car bug too. Take care Cheryl.
