I am restoring my 68 skylark (not a gs), and was wondering what parts of the trim (around windows, trim on sides, hood, trunk, and the bumpers) are supposed to be stainless steel and which are supposed to be chromed. BTW, what different colors did the factory paint the grill.

most of it is stainless (not chromed). Not real familiar with the 68s--there may be a piece or two on the trunk that is die cast chrome.

You just need to look at the parts up close----you should easily be able to tell which pieces are bare stainless and which are chromed potmetal or chromed steel.

Window trim, wheel opening mouldings, side-of-car "spear" , and most (if not all) of trunk will be stainless. Drip Rail mouldings (3 pieces each side) also stainless.

Just look at your front and rear bumpers---those are chrome.

You could post pics for each piece here and it would help in id'ing what finish is on it.
