Ames Performance sells the original style. I don't know what the cost would be, but you could ask.

I have used the piping from Ames and it is excellent. Buy with confidence.

Ames was the very first company to make this product. They developed it and heat formed it there in NH. I was visiting their shop about 15-18 years ago, and saw them doing it, I personally spoke to Steve Ames about it. I bought some shortly after for my 442, and have turned a lot of people on to it. As far as I know...other sellers buy it from Ames, that's why it's cheaper there. TPP is the oddball, they like to have their own stuff made, but not always. It's a great product!

I purchased the correct piping from Poston's back in late 2000.

I have been buying from Ames for at least 30 years now. They were the first to come out with a bunch of products, and I enjoyed seeing them at the car shows where I also was vending.

When I do a car I always buy certain parts from them. There are quite a few of their pieces on my 69 car. I have never worried about quality with those guys.

I think the $90.00 is for the 66-67 beading itself. They also sell the kit with the correct end caps, but it is a little more expensive.

Gerry, I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing. Seat moldings have been available since the 60's or 70's. In fact, I think it was the same stuff you put on door edges, it came in rolls. Ames stuff is different. it's larger diameter like original, and it's molded in shape. These are large preformed pieces, that's why it's expensive to ship, it's oversize. If you bought molding from Poston's in 2000, I doubt it's the same stuff I'm talking about.
Duane...yeah...I've been buying stuff from Ames for about the same amount of time. One of my houses is maybe 12 miles from their place. They do nice repros, and they have things you can't get elsewhere. Great vendor, and easy returns if there's a problem.

thanks, Now I have a rather large list of things to buy. I saw that they have a 15" steering wheel for tilt wheel does any one know if that will fit. I had Bill Merrick build one for me but I think Bill (sky64) has passed since then. what an amazing site only wish buick had a site like this

There is a budget alternative to the reproductions. It doesn't look or fit exactly like the original, but may suffice.
It only costs about $20 and is avail from local auto stores or online from Amazon, etc.
Look for "Cowles door edge guard' . Here's their website with more info:

    • From OPG:
    • "This chrome piping fits the original seatbacks only. In 1967 the original seatbacks were metal, while in 1968 and up they were plastic.
    • Authentic reproduction of the original GM product."

    • Interesting that the cheap stuff only fits the repro backs and bottoms.

I have purchased items from ames, in the past. I understand what u are saying about preformed pieces. will keep in mind if I need to replace. I still have some of the old Poston piping.

I just bought the OPG set - about $20 less than Ames with the free shipping. I'll follow up after I play with it. Now I have to take the cr*p ones off. o_O
