I believe every state has a different set of rules. With my antique Ohio plates I had to pay somewhere around 25-30 dollars and my plates are good for 50 years. (no stickers to buy ever!) I was told that at the BMV that mileage isn't an issue since I only drive the car in the summer months. I also have Ohio 1970 plates that I actually drive around with on my car. BMV told me just to keep the antique plates in the car and if I got pulled over to show the police those plates. The only con that I see with these plates is that you can't personalize them from what I was told and they say antique on them. I really wish Ohio would make a classic or muscle car plate...now that would be cool!

in the province of ontario, the cost for year-of-manufacture is well over $300 . the plate must be checked visually by the ministry (u have to mail the set of plates to them). they get a fee to check them out for quality and for verifying that the plate is unregistered. the plates are actually considered as personal plates. if the plate is still registered but has not been kept current, it cannot be used.
an historic/antique plate can be had for about $30-35 for cars over 30(?) years. however, this plate limits u as to the vehicle's usage. some classic/vintage insurance companies demand that u have the historical plates on your vehicle.

    Renee',

You can in Ohio now get personalized Historical plates. I have them on both GSX's, GSX NO1 and GSX. They will cost the personalized fee each year, however.

In Pa. Classic Plates Are One Time Pay, No More Reg. Fees Every Year. You Have To Send In 4 Picturs Of The Car, Must Appear Original. Car Is To Be Driven For Pleasure Only. No Daily Driver. With Classic You Still Have To Do State Insp And Emmisions If Older Than 78. We Have Classic On Our Grand National. Aantique Is About The Same Except You Do Not Have To Do Inspection Or Emissions. Again 4 Pictures And Pleasure Driving Only. Pa Has Just Made New Designed Antique Paltes. Replacing The Old Violet And White With Ones That Have An Old Ford On Them.

We Have 3 Cars On Our Policy With Haggerty, 70 Gs, 78 Turbo Regal And The 87 Grand And Pay About 600.00 A Year. Now This All Depends On What The Car Is Valued At.

    Hope This Helps

I would recommend getting antique/classic tags because if you get your car registered on regular tags, you will be faced with paying high taxes as opposed to paying tax on a maximum value of $500.00(this is the value Connecticut puts on a car with classic tags). There is a huge savings doing it this way.
