I need to get some classic car insurance for my 71 GS....and am wondering if anyone has had any particularly good experiences and can recommend a good company to go with. You can also let me know which companies to avoid. I have a '71 GS and, like most of you, have a ton of cash in it that won't be covered by regular insurance.. Thanks in advance, Chuck
There are extensive discussions on this topic already. Try using the search function for Hagerty and/or Grundy.
I typed insurance but didn't see much. I thought there'd be something but probably need to look again... thanks
I have Condon and Skelley. 1987 GN insured for 16k 1965 skylark 464 under modified class and insured for 22k Total for both 425.00 per year. Not a bad deal imo. My cars are all registered in NY. Not NJ!
Our 72 has full coverage with our State Farm policy, as a classic and it is inexpensive. I had to provide an appraisal of value.
I've had "Grundy" for the past 10 years. Prior to that I had "Taylor". There are many specialty companies out there. The most important thing is be sure you get an "Agreed value" policy NOT a stated value. I base this from experience. I was a Sr. staff appraiser for one of the worlds largest ins. co. for 31 yrs. I also have an appraisal bussiness (Collector Car Appraisals since 1984) I also work in a body shop part time and we have had quite a few dealings with "Grundy" and they are great to deal with on classic car losses.
Although these threads all say Grundy at the end of the link, many different carriers are discussed including Hagerty... If you search for Hagerty or Grundy you will find more opinions than you have time to read. http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=147714&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=133954&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=126739&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=122006&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=102750&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=97906&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=69238&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=83372&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=80366&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=71628&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=73559&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=65962&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=48052&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=38802&highlight=grundy http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=21226&highlight=grundy
I would not use Grundy under any circumstances because unlike Hagerty they only write underinsured or uninsured coverage to the state minmums. This is poor coverage when you need it the most. Hagerty does not so limit its coverage.
State Farm is rated one of the worst carriers in the US for claims management. This is when you need the coverage the most --when you have a claim.
Chuck I have Hagerty on all the cars. MY agent will go to your house to do all the paper work and will take pictures.
