There's minor carbon build up on the side of one of my carbs due to the previous owner not draining the gas before putting it on a self. Anyway, when I tried to clean another (different) carb last time using carb cleaner it ate the plating right off the carb. Since this carb is in even nicer shape, I just want to get rid of some minor carbon near the base plate. But I don't want to redrip the carb or ruin the current plate job. Any advice?
Spray cleaner shouldn't remove the plating. Just don't dip it is the wicked stuff in the gallon can with the basket. That stuff does take the plating off.
Thanks for the advice, I did end up using the carb cleaner, however I used a tooth brush instead of a rag, this time the plating remained! I believe the stuff in the gallon pail is called "carb dip" o No: and it's supposed to strip off everything down to bare metal. One more reason to not get it on your hands! Thanks again bud. Swords
woops! ive used that stuff in the can a few times. ou: hopefully i wont have too many problems :eek2:
Looks like carb cleaner works out fine, just don't use a rag to wipe off the grime and if you do DON'T rub to hard! Cheers Swords
