Hi everyone, I'm Emanuel from Switzerland and the proud owner of a 67
    GS400
Now I have the following problem. When cornering (mainly on the left) I hear a clicking noise, faster or slower depending on the speed.
Wheel bearings and universal joints on the drive shaft are completely new. There is no play in the shaft and wishbone joints. It can't be the front brake pads (disc) because the clacking can also be heard when you press the brake. Could the noise come from the differential or gearbox? Does anyone know the problem or has an idea where the noise could come from?

    Thank you for your information.

I do know that certain posi units click or ratchet when turning. You have a new posi?

    Hallo Ken

Yes, had the lid open... it seems an Eaton limited slip diff was installed

I've thought about it, I'm just not sure...

My first thought was the drive shaft needle bearings, but you mentioned that's all new.
Is the sounds softer or louder than the sound of your indicators?

Es ist kein knackendes Geräusch einer völlig blockierten Achse, sondern eher das Geräusch eines Blinkers... nur von außen

Do you also hear the sound when you make a turn on a dirt road or on gravel?

Did you add a "limited slip lubricant additive" when you refilled the differential?

I haven't tried it on gravel roads yet, I haven't added any additives. what would you recommend?

Was there no tag on one of the differential bolts saying you should use limited slip lubricant?

You could add something like this product from AC Delco:

Was your car built in Biel/Bienne?

No, there was no sign, I took over the Buick without knowing about this diff.

Can I write private messages here?

No, not in Biel, I got it from Germany and it came to California before..

It's nice that you know about GM assembly in my country

Thanks, I will use this lubricant and report back

Well, is the noise gone after adding the limited slip lubricant?

No, unfortunately not. I was now able to attribute the noise to the transmission quite confidently. I've read that it could be from the governor's weights, a loose screw or a hairline crack on the flywheel. I've checked both, the flywheel seems ok and I can't really imagine the loud clacking noise from the governor!?
    So the search continues.

Check the bolts holding the torque converter to the flywheel (flex plate). If it only happens when turning, something is flexing. Check all the rubber bushings in the rear suspension.

I know this may sound dumb... but are any of the wheel center caps loose? I know that they will make clicking noises when they are.

Rubber bushings are new. I checked the flex plate as best I could and didn't find anything. The clicking comes from the transmission. Does anyone know the problem? Is it possible that the rear case bearing is broken?

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Check along the length of the driveshaft and make sure that nothing is loose enough to swing into contact with the shaft. E-brake or exhaust parts are possible.

Hopefully it's something simple. Also I like the check the center caps suggestion above.

Thanks for the suggestions as to what it could be. But I can also rule out the center caps. I replaced all wheel bearings and the noise is present before and after the exchange. The caps sit tight.
