I have decided to sell my 70 Skylark when it is finished. The car, a professional frame off process, is ready for paint work. It has a BBB etc. I have changed the interior color to black, and the original color of the car is not a popular choice. I have several questions and would appreciate your input.

For resale purposes, what color should the car be painted?

    1. A 70 GS color?
    2. A custom dark blue?
    3. What color would you choose from the 70 GS colors?
    4. For re-sale purposes what 70 GS color is your choice?
    5. Should I use the original color?
    6. Any/all other opinions, pertaining to a color selection, are welcome.

    Thanks,

    Patrick

If it is a skylark I think the importance of the original color maintenance is superceded by need for a popular color. Those would be Fire red (75) or Black (19) in my opinion if you want as much universal appeal as possible.

Patrick - What is the original color?

A frame-off? I'd paint it a 1970 color. Of course, I'm partial to Sherwood Green, but other popular 1970 colors (for today's taste) are diplomat blue, silver mist, and, as Jim stated above, fire red and regal black. Behind sherwood green, I also like aqua mist.

Does the car have a vinyl top?

Barret Jackson announcers always tend to favor the Red cars. If you have had a professional frame off you need to go with the color that will recoup the most of your investment.

I took my wife to see Original 1970 Buick paint chips and she picked Stratomist Blue.

My personal favorite, and a color that is in favor with 2005 cars, is Irridescent Beige Metallic. I bought a magazine last year which had a Convertible GS, black interior and the Irr. Beige Met. exterior.... looked awesome. Owner claimed it was a special order color according to the article.

    Jim, Marco, Steve,
Thanks for the responses. The original color, was either bamboo or sandpiper. I don't recall specifically. The car came two tone with a painted top, so it does have the top trim. I was going to eliminate this trim, and paint the car one color. My personal choice is a custom dark blue, but I want to chose a color for resale purposes.

    Opinions please.

I know exactly what you are talking about.I,too have a 70 Skylark that is Bamboo Cream and it also had a Gold Vinyl top and Sandalwood interior. Not my favorite color at all,but it was free and now adorns a 71 Saddle bucket interior and I am trying to locate a supplier of brown vinyl tops(don't care if correct) for it to make it look a little better.I would paint it a 70 color Gulfstream Blue in my case but like Jim and Marco said, red and black seem to get the best interest. Now that I think of it 3 of my 4 cars I wouldn't have ordered with their color choice...but I guess I will live with it.My 71 is White, brown top coded (but had black top) and sandalwood interior now has black interior. My 73 is Burnt Coral with Saddle interior but I like it better than the 70 and 71 colors. But my racecar project is a post model in Gulfstream Blue..

70 #25 was Gulfstream blue --real nice . Diplomate Blue was like a navy blue and I remember it as #28. I the stratomist blue in 70 was a Riv color but you could have ordered it. Mighty fine. However, for resale and since you have black interior code 75 Fire Red and # 19 Black would be the most universal best sellers.
