It looks too dark to be Fire Red, so perhaps it is Vintage Red (Code 74)

always hard too tell form just a single picture - camera light computer all affect how it looks especially the metallic -
looks like vintage red to me I have a 71 vintage red riv code 74 X (fire red would be a little more like fire engine red)

see this for large size chips, thru light ranges of both colours and codes etc

-- PS Vintage Red was a Riv exclusive only colour, so it was on the lark from new it was special ordered.

YEP, Looks like vintage red to me too. It was a Riveria only color that was SCO for the other body styles.

In 72 the color code was 73 X vs code 74 X that they had in 71. They changed the codes for some reason.

Don't know about Skylarks but for GS's they only made 3 in that color for 1972 and I have 1 of them. See my pics. Like Rob said, in different light it looks like a different color

you could also take that picture to a paint shop and have them match it up. seems like there was a color in 67 similar also.

If this car has been repainted the only way to be spot on with the formula on is to have it scanned.

If you want to keep it a 1972 GM color, paint it CODE 73 - Vintage Red Poly. That is the closest you will get to the picture you posted. Since it is not a solid color and is a POLY ( a very fine metallic ) , I would base coat/ clear coat the car. If not, the metallic in that color gets " blotchy" and does not look good. Also, that red is very transparent, so getting coverage over certain color primers is tricky. Also, remember "RED " paint is twice the price of other colors . It has something to do with the pigments but well worth it . Any questions, maybe i can help. I have included a link with a color chart to show the available 1972 colors. Good Luck.

I say Fire red. It can look pretty dark in some light.
