Hi - I will come in June to Laredo Texas , for work.
I drive a Buick Electra 225 Year 1960. Is there anyone also driving one?
Is there any event and what should'nt I miss. Any good stores or places for old Buick parts , hot/rat rod places , rock'n roll / rockabilly shows or places , any good record stores for records from the 50's & 60's? Where should I go for the Texas Rockabilly girls ?
You see - I need all kind of informations , because I was never there before.
Please let me know , so I will have a great time in Texas !
Should I go to mexico too?
    Thanks Herby Germany

Hi Herby -- How long are you going to be visiting? Laredo in the June to August period will likely be miserably hot. Laredo is a border town on the Texas / Mexico border. As such, it is a lot like being in Mexico already (northern Mexico anyways). You would have to travel quite a ways into Mexico to get a different perspective from what you will already be seeing in Laredo, so I would suggest spending any travel time heading into the mainland of Texas (Austin, Houston, etc...). Unfortunately, Laredo is not going to make you fall in love with Texas. Border towns usually are not the highlights of our state.

For hot rods and rockabilly, you will need to travel to Austin. That is about a 3.5 hour drive from Laredo. While I can not think of any big events coming up in the next couple of months, rockabilly always abounds in Austin, as it considers itself the music capital of the world. We have already had the main hot rod show of the year here earlier in March. The next big event is The Day of the Drags that a local hot rod club (the Continentals) puts on each year. It is usually in late September or early October. Other sources of hot rods and rockabilly are hitting the South Congress area of Austin on any Friday or Saturday night at the Continental Club http://www.continentalclub.com/Austin.html. For rockabilly girls, check out a rollerderby game put on by the Lonestar Rollergirls http://www.txrd.com/ or the Texas Rollergirls http://www.txrollergirls.com/.

There is tons of music in Austin each weekend and lots of cool record stores. Check out the Austin Chronicle http://www.austinchronicle.com/ for info on shows. If you come to Austin, pick up a hard copy of the Chronicle at any restaurant or corner store for free. It is jam packed with the week's music shows and advertisements for record stores and such.

I cant help you with the Buick info, but surely some of your Buford homies here will chime in.

    Have fun with your visit!

    Ben
